Well. I've had this card for about three days and I think its time to RMA to Powercolor.

Since I've had this thing my computer has been really unstable. Right now I am running default clock speeds and the card is artifacting in ATI Tool. Far Cry gives me screen tearing and then lockups, FEAR locks up and I lose video signal.

Is there any chance that my PSU isnt up to the challenge?

Are you using Catalyst 6.4? I had a lot of issues with those and had to revert back to 6.3 since I was getting video signal loss, game lockups etc. Give the 6.3 set a try if you're using 6.4 before you RMA.

Temps are 46*C idle and 73*C load using Accelero X2. So temps arent a problem.

Using Cat 6.3 already.

ATI Tool locked up my computer after 15 minutes running 650/775 default voltages.

Really really frustrating.

Dont use ATi tool? It it locked up your PC, then its to blame. Try with just the drivers, and no tweaking programs.

he is also getting problems in games themselves; ATITool just seems to be making his problem worse.

to OP : how powerful is your PSU?

ATI Tool isnt the problem. ATI Tool is locking up my system while running the artifact scanner.

Well. After a complete reinstall of all drivers, Tray Tools and ATI Tool, I'm running 650/775 default voltages and so far no artifacts in 8 minutes. Thats 8 more minutes without artifacts than I was getting before, so hopefully it was a driver issue of some sort.

I'm going to work now, I'll report back when I get home and see if ATI Tool is still running.

A good test for X1900XTX stability is 3DMark06 Canyon Flight or a bit of Oblivion. My defective XTX would run everything else fine, but would artifact/lockup on both of these.

Define default voltages for me.

XTX's have a default voltage of 1.4-1.425v

Well, I got home and the computer was sitting at the desktop and there was no ATI Tool, so I'm assuming it crashed. :(

I'm gonna go for a complete reformat here in a few minutes.

Yes, definately disabled the Hotkery Poller through services.msc

I just reformatted and bit the bullet on installing CCC, something I told myself I'd never do again. Overdrive auto-detected at 690/800, so I dunno.

I'm installing Far Cry and 3Dmark now. We'll see what happens.

For me it was different...I can play hours of Oblivion at 675/600 on my X1800XL but 3DMark05 locks up almost immediately in Canyon Flight. And Tomb Raider Legends used to lock up but I lowered the voltage (lowered it since apparently some X1800XL cores don't like to go over 1.25v) a bit and it doesn't lock up anymore.

Oh well, as long as the games don't lock up I could care less about 3DMark.

RTHDRIBL crashed overnight. This isnt looking too good.

When I get home from school I'll try some games.

Well, I'm gonna stick this card into a friend's system to see if it has the same problems for him. His PSU is a 600w Silverstone Strider with 58a on quad rails.

If it works in his setup, I am going to change out my PSU for a 565w Silverstone. If that doesnt work, it's going back to Powercolor.

I had a similar setup with the same FSP AX500-A power supply and had to change to one with more amps on the +12v rail for my X1900XTX to run stable. Running RTHDRIBL actually caused the PSU to shutdown. That Fortron PSU has split 15A rails, one for the CPU and the other for everything else including the video card. My guess is 15A isn't enough...

That happened to me once...
I thought it had to do with the fact that I lowered the settings to high performance for the bench.

Anyway. but my card is running just fine now. I think it's a driver bug, man.

Ok, I am really really pissed right now.

The card works in my friend's Quad core system with a 600w Silverstone PSU.

HE had a Silverstone 560w with dual 18a 12v rails that he gave me and I am getting the exact same results. This happens with or without the CPU overclocked, different sticks of RAM and two different power supplies....

It works fine in my buddies computer so there goes the RMA solution.

Someone please give me some miracle advice!

Does the XTX really require a 600w PSU?
