I think my windows XP media player died, and I don't know how to fix it:(

My WMP XP edition decided today that it wanted to just stop working on any streaming media. Is I try and click on a mpg or asf or anything else that could run straight from the link, it forever says connecting. If I download it and then open it, it works fine. This is rather annoying to me, esspecially when I found out that I could neither uninstall it or reinstall it, as I'm apparently stuck with what I've got because I'm using winXP pro.

Also, I tried opening a url with a mpg through WMP and that failed as well. Any suggestions?
