And just as I got NSMB Wii too :(

It was working fine last night, but when I went to boot it up tonight, the Wii just went to a black screen. After hours of fiddling with it, I still can't get it to change from its black start-up screen. There is no video or sound, but the Wiimotes do connect, which is supposedly unusual. The TV screen flashes when I turn it on and it detects an input, so I know that I'm not just on the wrong input setting or something.

When I picked the Wii up to unplug the power cable in the back, I noticed the bottom was pretty hot, so I'm guessing the system overheated or something.

Me and the SO wanted to beat NSMB Wii tonight, too!

How old is it? See if you can get Nintendo to repair it. They are generally very good about it.

It got it on launch day, so I think it is probably out of warranty. I'm probably gonna get them to repair it, even if it costs me a little cash.

Has anyone had their Wii repaired before? Is it a relatively easy process, and how likely is it that you will lose your saved games/channels?

I had mine repaired under warranty, and had to send it in 3 times before I got a working system. The first time the system was returned (same system/replaced disc drive), and the console was physically damaged (missing screw, scratches, etc... It looked like someone played hockey with it.). Nintendo then sent me a refurb that was dead when it arrived. The final time they sent me a new system, because of my trouble.

I was without a system for about 2 months, but each time my Wii Shop/Game Saves were transferred to the replacement/fixed system. The only thing I lost was my ability to edit the Mii's that were created on my first system.

From what I've read my experience is rare with Nintendo. Although customer service was always nice over the phone. I think the repair outside of warranty is $75 or $80. They provide you with a shipping label, but you have to provide a box for shipping. When you get your repaired/refurbished system back you do get a 1 year warranty on it in case something else goes wrong. When you send it in make sure you let them know to transfer your Wii Shop/Game Saves over.
