I have symantec antivirus and when i click the "liveupdate" button to update it says im not on the internet but i am, so i might have to get a new program, anyone know any free programs out there?

Uninstall Norton and give this a try: 30-day trial of Kaspersky Antivirus Personal 5.

Also open Notepad and use it to look at your C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Etc\HOSTS file. It should have 127.0.0.1 localhost and nothing else (scroll up and down it, to make sure there's not a bunch of blank spaces hiding more entries from you).

I have started using Trend Micro. You can download it for around $40.00, and it has a $25.00 MIR for new users who have owned Norton or McAfee antivirus.

It is a very nice program. I actually bought Norton 2005, and it used so many resources, it had to go.

assuming that you are still within your subscription end by date then go into control panel>symantec liveupdate & choose to use your present internet connection configuration for updates.

If you paid for the Symantec client call their tech support and get a solution. Most likely they'll walk you through an uninstall/reinstall process (likely painful and time consuming). If not there's plenty of alternatives available for free but usually you get what you pay for.
