I think my video card went out?

First off, my current system specs:

Athlon 64 3400+
2GB RAM
Geforce 6800 Regular (not working)
Geforce 4 TI 4200 (temp replacement)
A-Bit MOBO (I'll get the model later, when I get home)

So the other day, late at night I'm browsing the web and my comp freezes. No alt+cntrl+del, so I hold down the power button to restart. It begins to reboot, but I notice the pre-windows text screen has vertical dots in several rows across the screen. From there, every step, including the Windows XP load screen has the same dots all over the screen. After the WinXP load screen, my monitor loses connection with the vid card, and says no input on the monitor.

I'm guessing the video card is screwed.

So, I took out a Geforce 4 TI 4200 from an old PC and popped that in. I can boot up to Windows, do normal tasks for the most part. However, I think it's a DirectX 8 capable card, and I have DirectX 9.0c installed. Again, this isn't an issue for the most part, but I have a lot of trouble with Starcraft. I am crashing to desktop OR getting BSOD quite often. Rarely though, I can go through several games without issue, but most of the time within 5-10 min., sometimes less, during gameply the game crashes to desktop.

Also, yesterday, I had Firefox with several tabs open, and was watching a youtube clip when I got a BSOD. I'm guessing most of this has to do with the DirectX version difference.

Is there any way to view the exact errors during the Starcraft crash to desktop? Only a dialog box comes up saying that the program has incurred an error, sorry for the inconveniece, with an OK box.
The BSOD's go through so fast, I can tell what the error is.

Appreciate any help, or direction. Thanks.

Reinstall the nvidia drivers after changing models of cards, it can cause issues if you dont. Also, you are correct in thinking the dots mean a bad card. Its either overheating or has bad memory

Sry forgot to say, I did reinstall the nVidia Legacy drivers for the TI 4200. Before I reinstalled the drivers, webpages would scroll slowly, refreshing the entire page each time. After I installed the drivers, surfing is much smoother, but I still have issues with the errors mentioned.
