I Think my video card just went out :(

I just got a sweet 24" screen, i turn off my computer which was working perfectly, hook up the new monitor and turn he computer on. The computer comes on no problems but the screen wouldnt come on so i turn off the computer. AFter that when i turn on my computer it has a long beeeeeeeep then a 5 second pause then a long beep about 5 seconds as well..

I tried hooking up old monitor but same bad results. Did i burn my vdo card out? I will test on friends computer later today but hoping to fix it now.

How old is the card? And have you tried re-seating it as well? Maybe it popped out a bit when you changed the cords around.

yeah i did try reseating it. I am at friends and put it in his computer but forgot damn dvi to vga converter. But on a good note the computer wasnt beeping, but no way to see output. Card isnt that old less than 1 year.

This really sucks because i wanted to test. Will try again tomorrow iguess

well still no luck i just put my card back in my computer and it beeps and doesnt post. I have a EVGA 650i ultra btw im thinking it could be the mobo

In my own personal experience where I have thought it to be the video card or mobo, it turned out to be bad memory. Unfortunately with today's dual channel systems, it isn't as convenient as popping out one of the modules to see if that is the case.

why wouldnt it be? Dual channel doesnt mean you have to use both, the label dual channel is only marketing. And i did take out both sticks and try each one. I also have spare ram sitting around i think i will try that as well.

But there is some serious misconceptions about memory now adays. All dual channel means is that the memory was tested to work together in a dual channel set up. But that doesnt mean that have to be used together or that 1 stick wouldnt work with another random stick for dual channel. Dual channel is controlled by motherboard not the ram.

I do wish it was the ram though ram is so cheap.

Have you tried both the the DVI and the VGA cables with the new monitor? What kind of card is it, anyway?

Anyhow, you tried testing the memory anyways and it apparently wasn't the problem. I was just saying that I have sighed over the thought that the motherboard or video card went bad when the problem was only the memory.

I've been out of the hardware thing for a while. I am in the process of building a new PC to replace my current 6+ year old Athlon XP 2200 system.

yes i have and i have tried old lcd. Im at friends and my video card works. I think it must be mobo or cpu.

Here are my stats:

6400 c2d @ 3ghz
evga 650i ultra
2x 1gb crucial DDR2 800mhz
ATI 1900gt rage 3d brand i think

I hope it isnt my cpu man this is a headache. I really dont have any way to test cpu because friend has amd. I have tried resetting bios both buy removing battery and moving jumper but still same problem. I am going to call evga see if they can help out maybe they know what a 5 second beep followed by a 5 second pause means.

The only thing is would i even get power if it was the mobo or cpu? Wouldnt it just turn off? I guess i will try back up power supply to but i just got this new one about 1 month ago.

Yeah no problem i problem rooted from back when asus came out with the a7n8x deluxe and sometimes you couldnt mix and match ram with the first dual channel mobo. So companies sharted marketing their ram as "Dual channel" which sorta implies that the ram does something special but it does not. Its the memory controller that creates the dual channel.

sweet i had a couple of them, parents still run it. Sold the other one about 1 year ago. When i sold it they were selling on ebay for more than i pay for it brand new. But i sold mine cheap lol.

I think this crucial ballistix has lifetime warranty guess i need to contact crucial . First time i have had ram go bad.

On a postive note monitor looks sweet. But games not running to good on 1920 x 1200
