I think my power supply is shot- Help?

To anyone that can help-

I recently began experiencing some problem with my desktop. The first thing is, and I don't know if it is related at all, is that the fan on my heatsink started to go. It slowed down enormously and made funny noises.

Then, one day my computer would start up but not post or go into windows. I got a new fan and put it in. It seems to be working fine, but then a couple hours later I was online and my mouse froze suddenly. A few seconds later it would jump to the next point on the screen I went to. My keyboard wouldn't work, and I couldn't shut down except to just hit the power.

That was yesterday. Today, it starts up just fine.

Could this be

1. Power supply starting to go down the crapper
2. A residual problem from the heat sink fan dying?
3. Motherboard issue? (I thought it might have been contacting the case somewhere, but that doesn't seem to be it)

Any insight would be apprecieated. Thanks

well what are you specs? sometimes your mother board has a fan controller that turns the cpu fan on and off at certain temps, my cpu now is at ~25c therefore its spins slowly than stops. when i did my new build it was problematic for the first few weeks, just waited all the new bugs out. than my power supply fried and boy did it smell. check ur psu with a mini meter if u have it.

Yep- I replaced the fan yesterday. I'll have to double check the temps, but they seemed to be fine.

Oh- I forgot about this. I had left it on this morning, after the new heat sink fan was on and working fine, and after about an hour the screen went DOS-mode on me and the was a message that said the primary slave hard disk failed. If that helps

Then perhaps your HD(s) are dying on you. Unplug all but your primary disc and try booting like that, alternativly get a knoppix live CD and boot with that.
