I think my mobo is dead, is there any way to test?

Well, nothing happens when i push the button. I know i have the power sw. clip in the right place. (Also tried jumping the power pins)

1. I know the power supply works.

2. The little led on the mobo turns on when i turn on the power supply.

3. The processor came with the mobo, could it be dead and not the mobo?

Thanks for your replies!

You can get a wire and momentarily short the 2 pins on the mobo that the power switch is connected to. THis will simulate pushing the power button. If your PB is bad, you can get new ones from directron.com - I think they're universal in many cases, but am not sure. Never had to replace one before 🙂

Good Luck.

Edit: Link to ATX power button at Directron.com - $6

IIRC, power switches are just momentary 3-ways - the kind RatShack sells for $0.50 🙂

Someone needs to confirm that first though. But either way, short the power-on pins with a screwdriver or something and see if it still boots. If it doesn't, you've got bigger problems. 😛

Uhh......momentarily short the pins 😀. ATX power switches are momentary contact. If you put a jumper on the power pins of any ATX board, it'll just sit there and do nothing. Just get a screwdriver and touch it to the power pins for like a second or so.

Didn't work either. I guess this is turning into a "Is my mobo dead" thread.

If the processor was dead would that be a problem?
