I think my Logitech Z-5500 system blew out...

In a huge lightning storm we had here yesterday, my speaker system make some crackling noise on the surround sound, and then just shut off on its own. All the connections are fine, and it won't work when everything is receiving power. Can I fix this? Something like this happened on my refrigerator, and I just replaced a fuse. Can I replace a fuse on this too? How?

Thanks!

There's a fuse on the sub somewhere, I'm not sure where since I don't have a set. (not sure if that would help your own issue though)

Logitech customer support is pretty darn good if you want to shoot them an e-mail and see what they have to say.

I need some more hero time. When I replace the fuse, the light for the system doesn't go on, but it makes a short, crackling noise through the speakers, and then shuts back down. When I take out the new fuse, it is burnt just like the original. Any solutions?

call logitech, i remember reading somewhere that logitech's 5500's have a special fuse or something.

those 5500's rock btw, have one of those, next time buy a surge protector! it costs only a fraction of the price of that new expensive speaker or tv that u buy, but provides so much protection.

keep us updated

Those tend to have a lot more reliability issues than the Logitech set.

JoeFahey, I would talk to Logitech especially if they're relatively new and possibly still under warranty. I've used e-mail tech support from them a couple times and everything went quite well.

If you don't have any luck there... then it's an excuse to upgrade? :p

Mine would have been. Mine no longer work because of a careless error on my part.

Sounds like you have bad luck and should invest in separate components so next time something breaks, you only have to replace part of your system ;)

OK, let's begin our basic lesson in troubleshooting, shall we? :)

1. Thing don't work even though it's plugged in
2. Discover thing's got a blown fuse
3. Replace blown fuse in thing with good fuse
4. Good fuse blows too
5. Wow, where to go now?
6. Obviously, thing is broken inside...sorta like your head...YES, even though you paid a hella'lotta monies for thing, it can be broken!
7. Contact people who built thing so they can replace thing really soon, unless you can live without thing for a long time
8. Your head has no user-serviceable parts inside, please do not open. Thanks

I doubt they're lightning proof. :p I went with 5500's just because of all the horror stories I heard about Klipsch, I actually wanted the Klipsch more as most people seem to say they sound a bit better. Oh well, I'm happy with what I have, you're happy with yours.
