I think my Klipsch Ultra 5.1 speakers are bjorked

I LOVE these speakers, but after a recent power outage, whenever theyre plugged in (regardless of being connected to the PC) they have a obtuse hum coming from the subs. I removed the back panel and didn't see any obvious scorching, so I don't know what to do.

Are there any easy tricks to trouble shoot it?

-I reset my power strip
-I plugged it into another wall outlet
-I checked for burn marks on the amp internals and didn't see any obvious damage

If its not repairable, what are the current speakers that are of equal quality to these gems?

Thanks!

Sounds like you took care of the obvious troubleshooting points. Nothing else to try is coming to mind (maybe because it's 2:30am)

I think getting the amp replaced would probably fix the issue.

There's not a whole lot out there in computer speakers that would be of equal quality to those. If the speakers are still good and it's a dead sub issue, you could even keep using those and build up a 5.1 system with them adding a receiver and sub if you wanted to.

Thanks for the quick reply! There might be hope! We've been having brownouts today and i'm hoping it was a dirty power supply to the house b/c the issue is much less perceptable than it was a while ago. Could that really be the cause, dirty power?

Could be. I've experienced loud humming from ground loop issues but not really from dirty power. I'm not sure how bad the power has to be to cause that degree of humming.

Yep, your amp is most likely toast. I had a pair of those same speakers and the situation is exactly like mine. You will have to contact klipsch to get a replacement Bash amp or go another route because the replacements are known to fail as well.

Dude, give Klipsch a call. I had a set of 5.1 Ultras back in 2005 and for some reason they died all of a sudden in 2007. Well, they were out of warranty but I called Klipsch and they sent me brand new ones for free 🙂 This is why I love Klipsch and will never buy Creative, Logitech, etc. for my computer speakers 🙂
