I think my Kenwood 52 True X is dying. Recommendations for a new CDROM?

I've heard about all the problems with this thing and didn't believe them until now. Nothing installs and my comp freezes everytime I try to read stuff from a CD. Any recommendations on a CDROM drive? Relatively fast and quiet?

Did you try fixing it before calling it dead? Put it on another IDE channel, change master/slave status, try another IDE cable, turning on/off DMA... etc.
