so i come home from water polo practice this morning to find a strange buzzin noise like a fan has a wire of some sort its rubbing against it. so i feel aground and stop all the fans by hand...nothing. i touch my hdd and its vibrating like no other. i pull it out of its cage and set it on a desk to boot. the comp now only boots to the lanparty splash screen when the hdd is connected, but when i plug the hdd back in it post just fine and asks for a boot soure, normal, so im thinking my hdd is dead sound about right?

Welcome to the club. One of my Seagate 300 gig 7200.8 just bit the dust last night. I get a Data error(cyclic redundancy check) and chkdsk /f freezes. 🙁

edit: spelling

Is the drive thats dead the Seagate in your sig? I've had mine for 8 months. I hope its just a fluke and not a trend.

Before you mess with the HD too much...
Place it in an anti-static bag, then leave it in your freezer for a couple of hours.
Try it directly from your freezer. It sounds crazy, but it won't cost you a dime.

PS, Don't freeze it in water

yes i have read that about the freezer. i dont have anything on there that i cant live without.

and yes it is the seagate in my sig.
