So this morning, I turn on my PC. It goes to Windows and then bluescreens (Memory_Management is the error I saw). Rebooting to Safe Mode, I start copying stuff over from my G2 to my Velociraptor (which has been serving as storage.) Even in Safe Mode, the thing wasn't too stable: Firefox kept crashing when I tried to surf for drivers and eventually, Safe Mode crashed. After finally copying over everything I want to keep (several boots into Safe Mode to do so), I put in my Win7 dvd and boot to it to reinstall windows. I wipe the ssd with a format, then delete the partition for good measure before remaking the partition and beginning the install. The install process gets past "Copying Files" but when it gets to "Expanding Files," an error message pops up saying some files are corrupted once I hit 3%. I've tried to reboot and retry several times (even powering down for >30 secs and restarting) to no avail. A couple of times it got to 5%, then 9% before popping up the error but that's it. This machine was working perfectly fine just yesterday. Is it the SSD or do I have another problem? I ordered a Samsung F3 1tb as a new storage so I can certainly try installing Windows to that when it gets here but I really need the machine up and running asap as I often need to work at home. Please help!

Edit: Forgot to add: My system is hooked up to a 600w APC UPS that has a digital display of how much juice it is sucking. When I turned it on yesterday, it said my system was drawing 170-180 watts or so. This morning though, it drew 210-220 watts when turning on. I'm not sure why it's drawing ~40 extra watts for no reason...

It could be alot of things. I'm leaning toward RAM or overheating. It's time to simplify. Unplug everything that attaches to your motherboard except the bare minimum required so you can run a memory test.

You can run MemTest off a CD or USB. You'll need to find another working computer to create it. If you have access to that working computer, while your computer runs the memory test attach your drives to that working PC and do the fast SMART tests on your HDDs. Have fun.

Just noticed you need it running ASAP for work. Take the drives with you and use another PC. Deal with troubleshooting and reinstalling later.

Update: It seems 2 of my Ballistixs are dead. Machine stopped bluescreening with them removed (I tried using just them and it would cause problems as well.) Now the other issue I'm having is that I can't seem to install Windows 7 with AHCI on. If I try, it freezes at the screen where Serial ATA Bios tries to detect. Even if I finish Windows install on IDE (which works fine), I can't switch back to AHCI. I don't think I've had this problem before when I installed Windows 7 then...

You can switch between IDE and AHCI post-install.

1) Open REGEDIT
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>ControlSet001>services>msahci
3) Change the Start (REG_DWORD) value to 0.
4) Reboot your system
5) In your BIOS, change your system to use AHCI.
6) Save your settings in the BIOS, and let Windows load.

Windows will load the AHCI drivers and you're allowed to use hot-plugging now :D.

Thanks, guys. A reinstall fixed it. Seems all I had was a bad ballistix stick. Glad I got out of this relatively unscathed!
