I think my dog is a vagitarian.

Let my dogs out back today and when I got back out I found my younger dog mounted up and humping away at my older dog. Nothin but air moving between them, though. Both are female and both have been spayed. The other dog just looked confused. Not sure what to make of this.

I've got the same thing going. Periods at the same time. Wrestling each other to the ground to get into a dominate position. Strange.

It's the dominance thing.. I had a female who would mount a submissive male for the same reason.

Pack behaviour/dominance. Usually bitches will do this behaviour when in season. Nothing to worry about.

Hmm... If you fix them up before they go into heat the first time, will they ever go into heat?

I did that with my cat, and she's never been in heat before; I don't know if the same logic applies to dogs.

Alpha female showing her dominance. My female will mount all the male dogs in the neighborhood and hump the sh!t out of them. They turn around and look at her like she's crazy.

They would not go into heat, but that is not what's causing the behavior as described.
