I can install the game fine from the CD and play on my 3 other machines. I install in on my newly upgraded machine and get nothing but error messages. Does anyone know of some sort of anomaly for Unreal based games and the VIA chipset?? My video card is a TNT2U, but I have also tried a PCI based Savage4 and Voodoo3 2000 card with no luck. I get a variety of error messages when trying to enter the game, critical error messages before the game even starts, and some sort of Restriction error message "contact your system administrator" when I try to uninstall it. I have never encountered anything quite like this, it's really bizarre!! I have all the latest drivers for everything except the MB bios, guess I'll give that a shot next. All other games and benchmarcking (3DMark 2000) programs work fine. Unreal Tournament Demo works great too. Oh well, any suggestions would help....

I just tried putting in my Voodoo3 2000 PCI card. I can get into the game menu screen now, but when I try and enter a game I get a different error message:

"Model PM-Amateur Model3 Serial Size mismatch....."

Is there something different I should be setting for this motherboard? I would never have upgraded if I knew it would be this big a pain in the butt to play a stinking Nerf game.

I've installed and reinstalled about a cajillion times. The error message also says something like " Got 1525610 Expected 1842695". Searching through the www.deja.com archives I see 2 other people with the same problem, but no solution....

If you get that message while installing, the CD might be messed up. If there are many scratches on the bottom (the side without a printed label with words on it), that's probably the case. If so, you can probably send it back to the company and get it replaced or purchase a CD repair kit which can usually fix minor to medium sized scratches.

Did you download the newest patch? If not, you can get it here. It might or might not help, but it doesn't have any documentation with it so I can't say for sure.

Yes, I have the latest patch. I have tried installing the games on all different partitions on my hard drive. I have tried the "safe mode" and gone through all the "Unreal" tweaks web pages I can find. The weird thing is, it installs and runs fine on all 4 of my old computers, including an old K6-200 with a Savage4 vid card. It just won't run on my new puter. The new puter is the only one with a non-intel chipset.

what did you upgrade from?

also i doubt this is a hardware related thing as all those other proggies work fine..

Wow I'm stumped. It does seem to be related to that specific board/system. I guess my last ditch guess would be to upgrade the bios or send an email to Hasbro (the makers of the game) and tell them the problem in the hopes that they might know the cause. However, in many cases, the larger the company the worse the response, so you may get a "thank you for your inquiry, we will contact you in 3-6 months" responses.

Good luck.
