I think my cat was trying to win a darwin award tonight...

My cat's name is Damian. He is an 11 year old tabby that is about 10 lbs overweight and has been run over by a car, and sliced one of his hind legs open. Both events requiring major surgery. He's a little skiddish, but a very friendly kitty.

Today he was outside (relaxing on our porch like a good cat), when a guy comes walking by with 2 full grown male german shepherds, neither of which were on a leash.

The dogs start growling and run towards my cat, at which point most cats might think to scram.

Nope! Not my cat!

Instead, he decides to run down the steps, right up close to the dogs. He spikes all his hair and starts hissing and growling (yes, growling).

So now my cat is standing off with these 2 full grown shepherds, and all 3 animals look to be in full attack mode, when all of a sudden my cat lunges straight at one of the dogs faces!

It almost looked like it happened in slow motion and I thought my cat was about to be torn to pieces.

It backed off a little, but moved right back in. At this point, I just ran towards the dog, it backed off a little and my cat backed off to the porch again. Everyones still growling, and my cat looks like he wants to go for another round.

My mom inside got a dish of ham and started clinking the dish. My cat turns around and walks inside the house.

I almost had a heart attack!

What a stupid cat...

Thats pretty hardcore of your cat.....mine probably deserve a minor darwin award. the neighborhood squirrel taunts them by getting on the outside window sill and sitting there....my cats great hunters they are 'stalk' the squirrel and charge headlong into the glass. Massive WHAM the squirrel doesnt move and my cat runs away with a seriously damaged pride!

OTOH you are lucky, had a cat when I was about 8 that did decide to go toe to toe with a german shepard. the cat nearly died but survived after major surgery and the dog required major surgery to reattach it's ears and parts of it's face....it also lost an eye in the process.

Believe it or not a big Tabby has a decent shot at taking an average sized dog.

Now the 2 dogs probably woulda beat him down.

I suspect different genetic stock has something to do with it. All the cats in Ecuador were small. Granted, Jefferson was even smaller than the average...

My cat was American and pretty small...

about 7 pounds but she was a female...

when I was little, there was a particularly nasty black cat that lived in the neighborhood. it would lie in the road and stare down cars. it beat up so many dogs that its owner had to have its front claws taken out, shortly after which it learned how to roll onto its back and slash with it's rear legs, then spring forward and bite/pummel with its paws.

it gave a 180lb saint bernard the beating of a lifetime. that cat was not afraid of anything.

then it got run over by a car (but it was old by that time)

I never liked cats.

I never liked cats.

Cats are nice animals, but you have to realize that even though they are cute and small, they are predators. They are fast and they know how to fight.
