I think my cable modem just died... :(

Howdy,

I started having internet issues this afternoon and couldn't get online. I checked my cable modem's UI and it said Offline for the Status. I unplugged it (SB6121) for a minute and then plugged it back on. Eventually it seemed to come back online for a couple minutes but then went offline again.

I checked the logs and it was full of T3 and T4 critical errors.

I called Time Warner and they couldn't do anything so they said they'd schedule a tech to come out. That was a few hours ago.

I just tried to check my modem's status again and couldn't get the UI page to load (192.168.100.1). I went to check the modem and found that all the lights were off. I unplugged it for a bit and plugged it back in and nothing at all happened. It seems like it just completely died.

Has anyone had this happen before and is there any way of resetting anything internal to the modem? There's no reset button or anything and since I get no lights I can't actually log into the modem to check anything.

Am I screwed and need to go get a new modem?

Thanks.

I don't have any way to test the voltage but I tried a second power brick with no change in the results. :(

I just threw a transformer away that checked spot on for voltage but wouldn't light up anything on the router it was paired with. It's all in the amps.

Sounds like it. Is it your modem or their modem? If it's yours, I'd cancel the service visit because you'll end up paying for that.

Check with Cox before purchasing a replacement to make sure you're not buying something that is at the end of its life span.

It's my modem. I've had it for years. I already ordered a SB6141 off Amazon that will be here tomorrow so I'll just have to see how that goes.

I'll see if I have any other power bricks that will fit the modem just in case I happen to have two that are bad.

Ah well.

Well, I dug through my box of random power adapters and found one that was close to the right specs. Plugged it in and the freaking modem lit right up.

Anyone know if these signal levels are good?

This should help.

http://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-cable-modem-signal-levels-are-considered-good-78

I spoke with somebody at Motorola (Arris?) once and was told that it's not just the numbers, it's the spread. The spread between high and low should be very tight or ideally the same. Unfortunately, I can't remember the particulars. Having said that, based on your numbers I believe you are in very good shape.

My Signal to Noise Ratio is 37dB across all four channels.

My Downstream Power Level is -2 dBmV, -2 dBmV, -2 dBmV and -1 dBmV

My Upstream Power Level is 46 dBmV, 48 dBmV and 45 dBmV

Edit: SB6121, same as what you have but on Comcast.
