Seems like amds mobile gpus would see more functional benefits from mantle sourced performance improvements. For most people desktop gpus are already powerful enough to provide decent speed and quality, especially at 1080p, but laptop gpus are still much farther behind, as that article on this site showed. Mantle might be just what amd needs to close that gap a bit... at least with desktop nvidia gpus without the mantle speedups.
If the gains are not that high, then this is completely wrong, or if no one fully develops mantle, then it won't matter, but mobile is where mantle could make the most functional difference.
