I think I've just experienced the next generation of spam?

I just sat down at my desk to listen to music and was just about to open internet explorer to surf the web, as I heard another stream of sound playing with my MP3s... I quickly hit checked my system processes and sorted by username to see if any junk software was running and couldn't find anything. As the sound bit came to a finish, I realized it was advertising for none other than a careerbuilder.com. How do I get rid of this trash????

I know. :( CNN has a small thing playing back a TV ad.

I disable sounds in webpages. I don't think it helps for embedded stuff like flash, however. :(

They're really getting intrusive with ads these days.

I wasn't running IE at the time the ad started playing. There weren't any processes running that I didn't at least recognize, but I terminated "realsched.exe" while it was playing to no avail.

Yeah, I experienced what was a new version of spam that other day...at least new to me. I was reading a webpage and all of a sudden I heard this commercial playing. I didn't see any pop up windows so I just switched over to Outlook to see if anything was happening there.. Sure enough, I had received a piece of spam email that included a link to some online advertisement mpg or some other video format set to autostart. Frustrating. It's bad enough to get that crap in email or pop ups, but when it starts talking to you in email that really blows. I recently started using that Google toolbar that has a popup blocker and it has really cut down on the crap that pops up.

But my favorite...the pop up banner I once received advertising software to block pop ups.... :)

Hmm thanks. I'll look into the AIM thing. For music, I use Quinessetial player at the moment. (It has the best iTunes skins I've seen, and I'm a fan of the OS X look)

I've just noticed AIM audio ads in the past week or so. Even with the DeadAIM running, I heard them. That is, until I edited the hosts file. add 127.0.0.1 ar.atwola.com to it.

If you go to WebRoot's web site, and click to do the Free Check for the SpyTracker (or whatever it is named), it will tell you what spyware if any is running on your system.

If your system checks out fine then it has to be the media stream you were listening to or the player downloading an ad itself.
