I think I've got a winner, non-C1 P4

Just got it in today from Googlegear. UPDATE I bumped the voltage to 1.525 just cause I felt the chip should get more volts.. haven't gotten any instability @ defaults, but testing @ 1.525 w/ temps. Will do more overclocking tomorrow.

2.53GHz P4 Retail
Pack date: 08/28/02 (!!!)
MADE IN MALAYSIA
SL6D8

Specs:

Abit IT7-Max (this board is overclocking like a CHAMP!)
CPU listed above @ 2.88GHz, 1.525V! I'm in complete heaven! 40C idle, 55C full load.
Running on a retail P4 cooler with ASII carefully applied 🙂 2x80mm intake, 2x80mm outake + 2 psu fans (made that way..)
New 80GB WD 800JB I just got
Visiontek GF3 Ti200 (upgrading next along with my 17" Sony)

512MB Corsair XMS PC3200C2 running 3:4 ratio (don't know the DRAM CLK right now but I think it's about DDR400..)

Running Prime95 loops here along with UT2003Demo. We'll see how much more I can get.. but it's looking pretty damn good so far!

2.85, default volts, prime95 'stable' .. need to run it longer to be postive.

Heh, need to get some sleep though. I have classes tomorrow morning. No work though tomorrow = lots of overclocking fun 😉

Early-morning-I-need-some-coffee-overclock 😀

2.92GHz, 1.55V, DDR scores in Sandra are 3150! 2.92 @ default/1.525V gave a bluescreen while running prime95. She needs more volts, 1.55V.

3GHz looks to be no problem, but I think I'm starting to hit the voltage wall after 2.9GHz 😉 Can't wait until after classes.

Wow Geekish Thoughts!!! That's one hell of a chip you got there! *Sigh* It makes me wish that my motherboard could overclock as well as yours. 🙁 (I'm running a 2.53GHz P4 @ 2.85GHz at default voltage). Ahhh, the price one pays for RDRAM. 🙂

Give us some benchmarks here! What are your PCMark scores? Sandra (CPU, Multimedia, Memory)? GO FOR 3GHZ!!!!

3GHz has come and gone 😉

3.01GHz @ 1.575V-1.6V.. 1.575 was unstable once but has been fine since. Hrm..

Once I get my final, highest, overclock I'll give you some benchmarks. 🙂

Back at 2.92GHz I was getting 3200MB/sec Mem scores in Sandra ^_^

UPDATE: Scratch that. It needs 1.625V to be stable @ 3.01GHz with Prime95.

However Motherboard Monitor is only showing the voltage @ 1.56 under load with 1.65V set in the BIOS. Sounds like the motherboard is undervolting a bit. So I should really be fine if I go up to 1.7V, since it'd be about 1.65V in reality.. right?

I'll be damned, it doesn't want to do 3GHz really no matter what. It's fine up to 2.95GHz, but bumping it up a couple FSB and it hates it no matter what voltage is used.

Posting this now 2.92GHz @ 1.525V and it's fine.

Benchmarks are up next.

Geekish Thoughts, that's a fine chip you got there, congrats! Please give lot's of details! 🙂

Bobbyeyes, innocent children? here? Nahhhh!!! hehe 😉

Pretty good.

Mine's a week 14 Costa Rica with a 8/27/02 pack date (SL685)
Mine does 2907 at 1.6 without a hiccup but It takes 1.725 to bring it up to 3ghz. Too much voltage and while the samsung pc2700 doesn't mind the 158mhz fsb, the nanya can't handle it. So I guess 2907 for me.

1.625 to hit 3ghz is fine. As for voltage my ASUS P4B533 really drops the voltage under load too. When I was trying for 3ghz at 1.7volts it would idle at 1.76 but it would drop below 1.65 I think when it was under load.

not bad, but please don't forget basically all (non-C1) 2.26 make it to 3.0 aircooled. And the overlocking potential has anyway nothing to do with the C1 stepping. C1 has changed instructions to (slightly) improve performance.

From what I've seen, most 2.26's don't like to push past 2.8 either. All non-C1 P4s don't like to go past 2.8/2.9. Saying almost all 2.26s can do 3GHz air cooled, yet 2.53's can't is laughable. Do they overclock better than 2.53's? Yes.. but 1.6A's overclock better than the whole bunch clock for clock. I was willing to pay more to get 2.8. I knew a 2.53 would at least give me that.

I can do 3GHz, I just need to feed it 1.625-1.65V. If I were to get a better cooler, I would possibly run at that speed. Besides, I'm more worried about getting a mild overclock with extreme memory bandwidth. With the 3:4 ratio and doing 150FSB I'm able to get DDR400 CAS2. That's all I wanted.

C1 = overclocking potential. You are mislead about the C1 stepping and overclocking potential at least, the rest is true from what I know. A newer stepping almost always improves overclocking potential. Just look at the 2.66 and 2.8 C1s!
