What the hell were you thinking? I don't mean to be rude, but I am just having a very hard time understanding your thought process here. You are trying to sub-lease your college apartment, and then you are suddenly wiring someone else's money to Nigeria? Wasn't there some point in between there, where you stopped and thought, "Why am I wiring money to Nigeria to sub-lease my apartment?" or at the very least "Maybe this isn't a good idea." Just wondering...

Bingo. A guy from the UK wants the apartment, so he asks you to send money to Nigeria? Aren't YOU the one that needs to get paid since you are subletting it? How backwards could you get...

You know what, this is not shenanigans, and I thought people here would be more supportive, even if I made a foolish mistake. I guess none of you have never or will never screw up in your lives.
Mods, please close this thread, and if anyone has any useful information, please PM me.

I feel really bad for how my fellow ATOTers have been treating you and I want to try to make it up to you, I have a spare $1000 that I can loan you to get you through this tough time. I'll write you a check for $4000 but I'm going to need you to transfer $3000 to me first. (my bank will only allow me to do a large transfer of 4k).

You know, i realize that everyone makes mistakes, but it still baffles me how you fall for this one. Sure you say you keep up with the scams and that you know about about the 419 scam. Didn't it ever occur to you that you could be involved in a scam if you send money to nigeria of all places? That should've instantly rung a bell, no matter how late/early it was in the night/morning. It should've also alarmed you that you were sending a large amount of cash instead of receiving cash. I just don't understand how people can fall for these scams, especially when most things don't add up.

I'm sorry, if you're selling an item or service, it should be the buyers responsibility to get the full payment to you; it shouldn't be your responsibility to pay them first and then receive money. It really sucks that you lost so much money in this, and hopefully it will be a lesson learned in the future.

Dude, the answer is greed. I wanted $450 because I thought I'd be down $1575 in rent money for a room I wasn't staying in. I shut off my mind in hopes of getting $450. Instead I'm down $6275ish.
