I think I'm the only one who never gets viruses...

I always here these horror stories about people getting the latest and worst viruses, but I've never recieved one myself! At home or at work! I don't use virus checkers at home and at work i have one but it never comes up with anything!

Is it just me? I don't understand it, people are so paranoid about getting a virus when I rarely ever witness a virus in action.

I think most people never get virii. I remember once downloading some weird file and the antiviral program said it had the "tentacles" virus. Also, what was that virus that was supposed to break your hardware or something? I go that but I just had to do a recover. On this comp I don't even have a virus checker.

I too wonder about these so called virus 😉

Actually I have come across them before because of my job and co workers. Plus all those fun e-mail viruses. If you want I am sure I can dig up one and send it to you so you will not feel left out. 😉

get on mirc and hang around in the wrong chans and you'll have people sending you virii left and right.
good thing norton kills em all! 😉
btw, if you disable auto-accept you shouldn't run into this problem 😀

I don't have an anit-virus program... download "stuff" from mIRC all the time.... stil no virii. Just don't run any foreign executables and you'll be fine for the most part.

I have a theory on the origin of virii. I think that certain big companies that make Antivirus software would be the perfect ones to release them. Of course not all of the virii, but it is weird how they get the fixes so fast. I don't know, it makes one think though. Just my little 2 cents. Don't laugh...well, okay go ahead and laugh.

IMO it's the tendancy for some people to be idiots and retards, which is what causes them to be infected by viruses. Then they blame the system admin or whoever maintains their PC's for not having antivirus software.

The most valuable virus checker is your own common sense.

I've often wondered if the whole virus thing is overblown, but then you see an example or two that make you rethink it. I received a virus on a motherboard driver disk once. NAV found it and stopped it in its tracks.

More recently a friend called, saying he couldn't run any programs on his computer. He'd click on a desktop icon, or a program shortcut via the Start menu, only to receive a message about some strange file. Turns out he'd received the Navidad virus from a friend, unknownst to him. We got on Symantec's website and followed the instructions to delete it.

Bottom line? If you're careful it's difficult to stumble upon a virus. If you're not careful, it's only a matter of time b4 one bites you.

Got a nice email from an innocent enough girl who won an auction of mine and along with the email was the Kak-hta54 worm virus. I sent it to Symantec and they said it was a new strain, it was embedded in her signature certificate as an ActiveX control, I could see it in the message source even though she had NO signature, she probably sent this to hundreds of people over the last few weeks.(and so on ect.)
It bypassed all my security settings (high/custom), Norton email AutoProtect even and put itself in my startup folder off the start button.
Thank-god I went researching it and found it before I rebooted.....
