This is why I don't understand why people do major overclocking and use watercooling. It seems that so many people that do that have some major misadventures.

BTW, feel fortuneate that your Monarch system is warranted for 6 months. I just purchased an Asus A8N-Nforce 4/Venice 3200+ "combo" from them and their standard warranty is now only 90 days for CPU/Mobo. I had to pay ADDITIONAL funds to extend the warranty!

The prices for extended warranties are now $7.99 for six months, $15.00 for 1 year, $19.95 for 2 years and $29.95 for 3 years.

I think their warranty policy on their "combos" is not fair. I didn't opt for the "retail" version of the CPU but even if you do the warranty is STILL only 30 days. So, in effect, you apparently lose AMD's 3 year warranty on the CPU.

Also, in the future, please give us the "whole story" at the beginning of the thread. This would have given us a much better idea of the possible sources of your problem.

I really have to read up on how the new power supplies work.

I had the same problem like this before and I can narrow it down to two things.

1. The CPU is not seated right or is not making proper contact with the HSF.

2. The PSU needs to be reset or replaced.

Last time that happened I just had to turn off my PSU for a short minute after I fiddled with something with the PSU switch still on. Apparently there was still a charge going to the motherboard when I left the PSU . Have to make sure that light turns off on the motherboard before touching anything on the motherboard. Using the shut down button is not enough. I must of flipped a fail safe or halt feature that was hard wired into the motherboards cmos or maybe even from the PSU.

Update: 5/14/2005

Took apart and reinstalled everything, including the water setup. And it worked! What was the problem? CPU wasn't seated all the way.

Which is weird, cuz I thought I had it seated the whole time, it sure fooled me.

Oh well, lesson to all: Never try to seat the CPU when the motherboard is oriented vertically!

YAY Regs for getting to the heart of the problem.

Mrvile: Why didn't you tell us that you had seated the CPU with the MB in a VERTICAL position??? That's another KEY piece of information that may have ruled out some other possible causes for the problem. Why would you seat the CPU in its socket with the motherboard in a VERTICAL position ???

And if I were you I'd take Ike's comments seriously. It sounds like there have been some major problems with the Neo2's and you still may end up with either a dead Mobo and/or dead CPU.

I think Ike is on to something. I have never experienced nor heard of a mobo that partially powers up when JUST the P/S switch is turned on- you metioned ealier in this thread that when you turn on your P/S "...the fans on the radiator, northbridge, and video card all turn on....". I don't know how your cooling solution is set-up so maybe it is normal for its fans to turn on when the P/S switch is turned on but for the northbridge, and videocard fans to come on when you hit the P/S switch but BEFORE you hit the case's power button seems very, very odd.
