Pretty sure the VZ One doesn't have AWS.LOL, this ain't a WP feature. It's not only on every T-Mo Android, it's on every T-Mo ROM for Android, including some you can flash to VZ devices.

just remember, on the $30 prepaid plan, wifi calling uses your minutes

on the postpaid unlimited min plan, wifi calling is free

wish t-mobile would create a wifi calling app for the nexus 5... If i were to go overseas, i'll have to switch back to my old froyo android phone which has wifi calling, to get free USA calls. well, that phone + 2G speed data overseas doesn't sound that bad

Most people use groove ip or other apps for WiFi calling. But all of them work differently.

Well I ended up buying a pretty much mint HTC one. Paid $350 for it and it comes with everything. I found swappa had better pictures and descriptions than eBay. Plus I could haggle with the price too. Originally the guy wanted $400 for it.
It's a Verizon model so I'm unsure what happens if I buy a straight talk SIM card. I read a review where they tried att and tmobile SIM cards in the Verizon one and they said it's SIM unlocked.

Straight talk told me in an email that any global unlocked or local unlock phone will work with the att SIM card they sell as long as it operates in the 850 and 1900 bands.

I haven't ordered this SIM card yet because I don't want to blow $51 bucks and find out it won't work. I've read plenty of posts from xda to android central saying people have it working but none mentioned what data speeds they got, or what apn they used. Very little info.

If ST said it would work just use one of the APNs they send you with the SIM card.

Yeah who knows. The phone will be here tomorrow I believe. The SIM card will be here Friday and I got free overnight shipping on the SIM and airtime card.

The Verizon one has those gsm bands that ST was talking about so I'll configure the apn when I get it.

I guess I should have no problem popping in my SIM card from my droid DNA which is currently on my Verizon plan if I don't like ST.

Well if you have a friend or family member that is on verizon you could add them to your bill and then split it. Doing this should only raise your bill 30$ I think and then splitting it will make it cheaper. So, the more people on the plan makes it cheaper when splitting up the bill.

Yeah except they are young and although they work while still in highschool, they would not split the bill with me so it sucks I have to pay theirs too because my mother doesn't afford it.

I did receive my htc one and straight talk SIM card. It works fine just only edge data. Although I believe I should be getting at least 3g. Putting the SIM in my DNA I get hspa speeds.

Not sure if it was the ROM I am on, but my S4 loaded the correct apn automatically for me with my st att sim.

The settings are here...
http://www.straighttalkbyop.com/program.php

You will find lots of other settings around the internet, they are the older apns and will not work for you. tfdata is the only one you should be using.

There are also lots of variations of the mms proxy such as mms3.tracfone.com, 66.209.... and some other one, they all resolve to the same ip. If the phone automatically loads the tfdata apn just use that, if not use the settings in the link.

The only thing I would add to the settings that the link is missing is under apn type it should be "default, supl, mms" without the quotes.

The problem with your htc first, do you have 3g enabled in the settings? Some roms have an option for edge, 3g, or lte.

I'm not sure why on my DNA I get hspa speeds and I didn't have to change and 3g enabling settings on the DNA. I did have to place the apn in correctly.

The htc one does have the gsm 850 and 1900 bands and I'm pretty sure att uses 1900 too. Might be something in the phone itself if the DNA can pick up hspa but the htc one can't.

I have stock 4.3 os on the htc one because it's not rooteable yet.

I also think the s4 has different radios, maybe more bands available ?

contract-less phones, would be T-mobile

for $70 (plus ~10% taxes minus 10% corporate discount?), you can get unlimited voice, text, data. plus $350 for a nexus 5 or $600 for a S4 out-right

only problem with be coverage of t-mobile in your area. if you're in the northeast / in a metropolitan area, should be fine. otherwise, not that good, especially indoors (t-mobile uses a higher frequency = lower building penetration)

that's why a lot of people who have unlimited verizon data, keep it... since they(/AT&T) have the best network coverage and speed combination. If you're going to pay similar ($70+ t-mobile vs $85 verizon), and both places require you to buy a new phone outright, I'd stick with verizon

There is no tax on tmobile 70 or any of their prepaid plans. It's all built into the flat rate.

I didn't know that. Well since I already received my Verizon HTC one I think I'll stick to it for now. I think Verizon has the phone unlocked because it works with an att SIM but I bet certain bands are locked. My DNA is rooted and fully unlocked and if I place the att SIM card in it, I get hspa speeds.

Yes, but if you can get corporate discount on postpaid, it should cover most of the fees, which makes the unlimited $70 plan similar in cost

Postpaid is slightly better than prepaid (in terms of roaming agreements), and you get the uncarrier v3 treatment (2g+texting overseas in some countries etc)

Since the htc one from Verizon has the 1900 gsm band I ordered a straight talk tmobile micro SIM card on eBay. Tmobile rolled out hspa to the 1900 band in Philly. So I should get 3g or hspa on the one with this card as opposed to only edge on the att SIM.
