I think I'm gonna get scammed on eBay after auction ends

For some reason, while I was at work, my dad decided to bid on something on eBay, and put a high starting bid on it. He doesn't research things far enough and thinks he'll be getting it cheap. Anyway, I looked at the auction, and the seller has 0 feedback and just registered like 3 days ago. Red flag went on in my head. Item is under $50 but still ...

After I lectured him , I looked on how to retract a bid, but of course, there is no option for "I think he'll scam me".

So, only other way is for me to contact seller and make up a story and ask to retract a bid (say something like my young son bid on it while I went away from PC or something). I know that sounds ironic 🙂

What should I do?

I've been told to just say I put in wrong amount, but I thought it says if you pick that, you have to re-enter right amount?

Fixed

1. Why pay when I have a huge chance of getting scammed?

2. Warren, if I do make up a story, and he is a scammer, he's gonna make an excuse or say he doesn't know how to do it

Why don't you just retract the bid with one of the options they give you? Use to put too high of a price in or whatever and then just don't re-bid on it...😕

But what will happen if I don't rebid it?

Because your father entered into a contract. He'll either get his item or learn a cheap lesson.
Have some class.

Of course it's a alien concept to you. I assume that's why you asked for advice.

Thread done, I just retracted and put in a lower amount.
I don't feel like arguing boat 🙂

So anybody who tries to sell something on eBay for the first time is a scammer?

doesn't make much sense. Your dad is the one who bid on it. What did the seller do wrong?

chris, I understand what you are getting at, and I know I'm partially in fault, but I've resolved the situation, and am still bidding on the item

Mod, lock please

hold on.

your father bids on something. you say you might get scammed. retract the bid and rebid?

WTF!?

I don't see what I did wrong, besides my dad bidding on it in the first place (you know what I mean). I had to rebid if I retracted or my account could be put on hold

I should have never asked what to do, lol
