I've noticed there are some online stores that sell jewelry. As anyone dealt with any of them? I want to buy her a necklace, and possably matching earrings. It'd be the biggest purchase I've made for her. I'm guessing It'll cost like $300, total. Apparently, her sorority has a big deal with them.

Please, no need for comments on the sexual term, har har har. It's so funny!

Actually, it's not. So just leave that at the door. Of course, being that I said that I'm sure the first 20 posts will be something about that.

Back on topic, would it be a better idea to buy them in person in a B&M store?

Thanks guys.

I'd get her a pear... damn!

If you live near Mission Viejo, CA, I have an excellent jewelry dealer I can recommend.

given the choice, i'd always buy jewelry in person b&m vs online. you just don't know what you're going to get unless you can see it with your own eyes.

spec, go fvck yourself.

Orsorum, sorry, I'm in the Tampa/Orlando areas. Do you think they'd be willing to do a "long distance" purchase? That is, if the price is right? :)

I'd have to second that. Pearls are pretty fragile, and without seeing them in advance you have no idea how they've been treated. I have purchased pearls online before, but it's always a gamble.

The best pearl : Mikimoto (don't buy anything cultivated, the natural stuffs has the best luster, but then, mucho dinero)

The best free pearl: Yours... hehe, had to do that. If you can get her to wear it...

Have any of you boughten pearls? She'd need one that have pearls all the way around (some I've seen just have a pendant or a few pearls here and there...I need one all the way around). deek, do you know how much difference in price there might be from buying B&M vs. online?

Will she be like 'UGH! These aren't the REAL kind! They're cultivated ::insert disgusted face::!!!!!" ? Is it that good of a difference?

To the person that said that they bought online, where at? How was your experience? Mind elaborating a bit? Thanks.

Look in the new Victoria Secret fall catalog. Page 35 - the pearl thong, $58. Best combination of pearls and uh... you get the idea :)

I actually got them off eBay, from dealers. I bought two sets, one was from Lippincott, I forget who the other one was from, it's been a while. If you go that route just feel the dealer out, ask a lot of questions, ask to see pictures, etc. Everything went fine, but the anxiety factor was pretty high. I'd still recommend buying in person.

Oh, cultured pearls are natural pearls, they just began as implants inserted into living oysters by man. If they let them go for several years they have all the beauty of non-cultivated pearls, they're just not entirely natural, and are a whole lot cheaper. If they let them go just long enough to get coated with nacre the outer layer can peel off and you're left with junk. If you buy cultivated find out how many years they were cultivated for.

Thanks for the info. But how long should I be looking for?
