I think if I found a way to intergrate all things into phone commands....

For example. I'm sitting at work at notice something good will be on TV....BOOM I just dial up my home network with my cell phone and set my TiVo to record. Or I forget to preheat the over or turn on the heater....BOOM I just call up and turn it on......I'd be filthy sticking rich

Yeah, because phone interfaces don't suck bad enough already with the number of functions they have to perform now.

Umm, my company already does this. We manufacture VOIP phone servers that can interact with virtually any linux device.

I can only imagine the annoyance of the automated phone system...

"If you would like to record Lost, please say 'Yes'"

Ugh... no thanks. 🙁

But how would you specify what you want the target applicance to do? Have a huge menu like customer service lines?

"If you'd like to record 'The Simpsons', press 1"

"If you'd like to record 'Family Guy', press 2"

...

"For more options press 9"

edit: DAMNIT someone beat me to it 🙁

No, more like "which show would you like to record?"

"Family Guy"

"Family Guy will be recorded."

I would buy it if you could do this:

"Hello, oven? Yeah I want some baked chicken and potatoes tonight. And make sure you don't overcook it this time!"

And then you get home to a nice home cooked meal waiting for you

Then you get home and it recorded the wrong episode of family guy, or it missed the last five minutes of the show.

Like an oven.

Can be accomplished with servos etc. Not that we see a market for this atm, but we are investigating integration with smart home type functions.

Uhmmmm.... this is not anything new at all.

Investigate MisterHome, SmartHome, and Asterisk. It's already out there... and much of it is open source.

I already made myself something like this... anything that can interface with my computer (either directly or through something like an X11) I can control with my phone, to some extent.

Not that new of an idea 😛

*Holds mouse up to mouth*

"Hello Computer!"

no, you just hit the code for your "TiVo". Then that gets you into the TiVo mode. Then you just type the channel followed by the # sign, then the start time followed by #, then the stop time followed by #. Then BOOM, you're done

Or with your oven, you just hit the code for oven then type the degrees you want it to heat to followed by #, then the time to start heating...BOOM potato caserole hot and steamy when I get home!!

They had that on food network, where you can call your oven to pre-heat it and stuff

It should more of a page that controls everything and your phone accesses this page ... hopefully, my co. can capitalize on the hardware aspect and have all the critical components integrated into the phone; the analog, the memory, the DSP, everything one convinent chip 🙂

Or do like Jack Bauer, reflash your phone rom to become a remote detonator for a terrorist explosives suicide bomb vest and blow the fvcker FTW!!!

I'm just waiting for phones to get more powerful while not being too big. Otherwise, its easy to dial in using the internet connection and tell my htpc to start recording something, burn this, upload that. Some AC systems have remotes, and you can easily program it to be able to send those signals to say open your garage door, turn the ac/heat up/down, close the blinds, turn on the tv and start playing the pr0n in C:\WINDOWS\system32\New Folder.
