I think I never want to live in Fresno

This is a review for a bug vacuum on Amazon:

I bought this for my elderly mother, who lives right at the edge of a tiny town, and has a parade of bugs across the living room all summer.

The unit is a bit heavy for a person with declining hand strength, and the handle is a bit too thick. It would be better if it had some type of grip where you put your hand through an opening.

It works OK for small and medium size bugs on the floor or wall. Mother has lots of cellar spiders, and it's hard to capture them, because they build webs where the wall meets the ceiling. The webs also get into the unit. She also had an attack of ants, but again, they tend to make their trail in hard to get at places. They also invaded the kitchen counter, but it's awkward to use the unit at that height.

The big problem is that it does not kill larger bugs. I left the unit with her for a week, and she picked up a black widow. When I opened the unit, the spider was alive and well, and had made an egg sac.

I tried it on some large bugs that invade my home each summer - so-called "water bugs," but I think they're a member of the cockroach family. It picks them up fine, but does not kill them.

So analyze your needs before you buy. If most of your bugs are on the floor, and you don't care if the unit kills them or not, it should be OK. Also consider your hand strength and ability to grip the fairly fat, tapered handle.

Do any of you literally live with a lot of bugs? I have bees (or wasps) squeezing their way in through my windows and it's driving me mad waking up to them buzzing around my ceiling.

If I don't put ant block or baits, I get ant parades daily every spring and fall....
Theres pretty much an infinite number of 'Fazah long legs' near my Grandma's house in Wisconsin.

😀😀

Every spring, I have to wage war on ants.

Late every summer, I have to wage war on crickets.

Mid-fall every year, our second floor is invaded by lady bugs.

I forgot to mention the box elder bug invasion that comes every year .... they hang out on the exterior walls of my house .... hundreds to thousands of them.... They suck. They are the useless version of fireflys. They look like fireflys, but they don't light up!

Get rid of any female Boxelder trees and they will disappear.

I live in a city, so we have homeless instead of bugs. They don't make a vacuum for them yet though.

Lol, bugs? I thought this was going to be about the crime rate and amount of meth heads there.
The title thread and the OP don't make sense to me.

Apparently there are bugs in the world and somehow it's only a problem in Fresno.. or something?

You guys need to discover the magic of diatomaceous earth.

Diatomite is also used as an insecticide, due to its physico-sorptive properties. The fine powder absorbs lipids from the waxy outer layer of insects' exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate.[9] Arthropods die as a result of the water pressure deficiency, based on Fick's law of diffusion. This also works against gastropods and is commonly employed in gardening to defeat slugs. However, since slugs inhabit humid environments, efficacy is very low. It is sometimes mixed with an attractant or other additives to increase its effectiveness. Medical-grade diatomite is sometimes used to de-worm both animals and humans, with questionable efficacy.[10][11] It is most commonly used in lieu of boric acid, and can be used to help control and eventually eliminate cockroach and flea infestations. This material has wide application for insect control in grain storage.[12] It has also been used to control bedbug infestations, but this method may take weeks to work.

There are many reasons to avoid Fresno/Stockton/Oakland.......however this thread is not about any of those reasons.

Fresno is infinitely worse than those other 2. They are bad, but Fresno is a bad bad bad place in every way possible.

What OCguy said. Fresno is the asshole of the San Joaquin Valley. It's only virtue is being as close to the Sierra Nevada as it is.

What is the difference between a bug vacuum and a normal vacuum? Last time i checked, normal vacuums are meant to to suck up bug like things.

Fresno sucks ass. I had the unfortunate experience of living there for about 9 months when I was in junior high. I've always found it hilarious that most of the rich/elite from Fresno think the city is the best place on earth.

I believe that's the normal line of thinking for most people with wherever they live ...

I can't even begin to understand why anybody could tolerate to live inside a giant huge city like NY, yet most of the New Yorkers can't imagine living anywhere else....
