Lately, when I'm in my room, my nose gets stuffy, I can't breathe well, and I get into coughing fits. I think it's due to all the dust in the air from my computer. Therefore, I'm thinking of getting an Air Purifier to trap these allergens and help air circulation. Anybody have one of these? Which ones do you recommend?

shower, and clean the room more often.

a lot of the dust comes from you. and clean/vacuum often to get rid of the dust mites.

In my last apartment, shortly after I moved in, I kept getting head colds for no apparent reason. When I'm watching TV, I like to lay on the floor and do crunches or ROM stuff, so I thought there might be something in the carpet that was making me sick.

I went out to the store and bought some of that Glade carpet fresh stuff and used it on the carpet. I ran the vacuum 3 times on the carpet and replaced the furnace filter.

I was 100% better after I did all that stuff.

Edit: Stay away from those Ionic Breeze purifiers from Sharper Image.

Agreed.

If you still insist on buying an air purifier, get a HEPA. CostCo and Sam's Club has them for cheap with remote control :)

Seriously, it works. I had to go all crazy on mine because then the box fan pushed so much air sometimes it'd overcome the duct tape (with only on the sides, since I didn't want to cover any filter space). I got the idea from another thread here on atot, and that person probably got it somewhere else, but it works, so I spread the word.

Definitely not something you can sleep with, but I just run it while I'm at work and when I get home, the air really has a different feeling.

but your symptoms may also be due to low humidity, especially when you sleep at night and you may also need a humidifier?

Not sure you found your device yet. But check out Hamilton Beach 04161 TrueAir. It got great reviews from amazon.com

Honeywell makes some nice ones too.

Ionic filters, like those from Sharper Image, are useless junk. Get a HEPA based filter.
