So my Machine kept freezing up, oddly. I narrowed the problem down to my powersupply, why? Because i seen a fan turn on and turn off, and I heard my harddrive rev down and rev up at the weirdest times.

Setup?

I have:

Chaintech 7NJS motherboard
2400XP
ASUS Geforce4mx
3 Harddrives
2 SATA-PATA convertors
cdrw drive
floppy drive
volcano 7 cpu cooler
5 case fans

but i still have the following to hook up, but not enough power cables
1 slot fan
another hd
dvd drive

What kind of powersuppley would be adequate, yet not too costly, I was thining the Antec true330?

my current power supply is a "POWERUP" 350 watt, which sells for a sad $15 online

I recommend ANTEC TRUEPOWER 480W PS with blue illumination:) Probably an overkill though.

First try disconnecting everything but the CPU, ram, Vid card and 1 HDD and see if the power fluctuations go away, if it does it was too much of a draw on the PSU and if not it may be faulty. I've also seen that symptom from a faulty case power button so you can short the pins with a screw driver to start the system and if it powers smooth and the problem doesn't resurface you have a bad power button.

i think it is my ps. i am running a raid with 2 hds, 1 cdrw, and 4 fans and so far no locks up at ALL! before i had one additional hd, a pci card network card that is, and a slot fan.

But yea now it seems fine, but darn i still have more hds and drives and stuff to connect, and i am sure this 15 dollar pos ps isn't going to do it..

how about that antec true 430watt for $89

That's the route I went. I opted for the TrueBlue 480 (TruePower 480 + Blue LEDs).
