I think I might move to SoB, or another DC program

Well, my new CPU is coming in, and I think I'll ditch SETI on my main rig. I do have my friends running SETI for me, so I will still be crunching on the SETI TeAm. My new CPU will be an AthlonXP2100+ Tbred-B, I hope to OC it to 2.2+ ghz levels. How would that perform in SoB? I remember hearing certain CPU's vary in terms of performance on different DCs. I would like to make a good use of every ghz I can put out :). SoB interests me because its a newer DC, and any computer running now, could help out alot.

But anyway, any suggestion on which DC prog uses a highspeed Athlon very efficently that could use some help? Its only one rig, but its better than nothing.

Thanks
Jonathan

We could really use you help at SoB, a rig like yous should put out 225,000+ cEMs/sec

As you have said, as SoB is small project, anything helps :)

We would love to have you join the Team :)

My Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53GHz) is currently getting about 140k cEMs/sec (k=24737, n=2496703, these values affect the cEMs/sec, your speed, generally the higher the n, the higher the cEMs/sec), so your 2100+ (1.73GHz) at stock will get about 160k cEMs/sec, at 2.2GHz, it will get about 200k cEMs/sec :)

All these values of course are determined by k and n, which are pesky little things ;) Soon, however, we'll be moving to FLOPS to measure speed, which should mean we can compare speeds easier! :)

You sure would help the team alot if you join. ;)

As for Athlons in DC projects, they do go almost everywhere. So no matter what project you will be doing you should be good. P4s on the other hand don't do so well in some and really good in others. P4s just happen to do great at SoB too. So since you have an athlon you can go to any team. But if you join SoB you can even get into the new race coming up. ;)

Your computer would greatly help out the SoB team and I hope you join.
Any DC project you decide to go with will help out TeAm though.
Hope to see you in as we need all the extra computers we can get :).

Thanks for the suggestion guys.

So an Athlon performs well in SoB? Then I'm sold :D.

Of course, with 2.2ghz I'm being conservative, they've been known to hit 2.4+ ghz on air cooling :Q

I run my comp 24/7, so I really hope to tear up the charts in SoB.

How does an Athlon compare to a P4 in SoB? I Think in RC5, Athlons or P4s were horrible, I don't remember which.

But anyway, how does SoB run w/ SETI? If I could, I would love to run both if they run well with each other. I know some DC projects do extremely well together, just not sure which.

I ran some testing when i was running SoB on Confused's account. To me, they didn't seem to run well together.
Here's what i found, using the Ars benchmark SETI WU. I don't remember what the n & k values were.

Normally the SETI Wu finished in 3:30:23 CPU time & i'm sure pretty close to that in real time.
Setting the priority on SETI to "low" & Sob to "normal", after 4 1/2 hours(real time) SETI was at 4.79% & Sob at 54% finished.
At that point i switched priorities on Sob to "low". Now both are running at low priority.
After another 7 1/2 hours(real time), SETI was finished & Sob was 94.8% finished.
That whole test took 12 hours! If i recall the SETI CPU time was pretty much at normal times(i didn't write it down).

:D

Just converted a friends AXP1900+ @ 1.6ghz to SoB, currently running my 1600+ @ 1.8ghz to SoB, and my brothers 866 P3 to SoB. My AXP1600+ will be replaced by my 2100+ coming in sometime this week, hopefully running at 2.2+ghz.

At school tomorrow, I'll see what I can do over there in my BST lab.

Meanwhile, I have a 1700+ @ 1.47ghz running SETI.

:)

hehe, too bad you don't get $5 paypal just for getting someone to register. we could've made a team account & just had everyone register & use that account as the "affiliate"
then use that $$ for some beowulf or something...

ah well - too bad.
