I think I might have found the car I want to buy to replace my mustang.

A guy I sort of know (I've met him a few times, don't really know him very well) is selling this car: Pic

I think I'm going to try and buy it :)

Yeah the rims are nice, the car is neat but the color is white????

I don't like white cars, somehow I always associate them with "rental car" or "utility vehicle". But that's just me.

I like it. What year? How much? Cobra's generally are rode hard and put away wet, although I'm sure IF anything is needing taken care of you could do it.

They found the car, or what was left of it. Never found who took it, nor any of the expensive parts I put in it.

And what's wrong with white? The old car was white, I like white.

It's a '96, making it the 305hp 4.6L. He's asking $9k for it. The car has some interesting suspension work done to it - it's got the IRS off a '99 cobra in back. I realize the car has been driven hard on occasion, but that's to be expected from any used cobra, and I know this guy takes pretty good care of his cars.

Black is a bitch to keep clean. White is nothing and it looks great.

All the cool cars have been driven hard. You just have to get over it :).

Any chance you can swing a 99+ GT?

Wouldn't be giving up too much in performance, & it wouldn't be nearly the theft magnet a Cobra would be (at least I would think...).

Then again, your old 'Stang shouldn't have been too much of a theft magnet unless someone knew what was under the hood.

Viper's got a good point. Considering the history of your living area, I may forego a Cobra for something low key and make a sleeper.....

You're right, it is a good point, but the next car I get, whether it's this one or not, is going to have a hell of a lot better insurance than the last one, and as good an alarm as I can buy. I'm going to do a lot more to protect the next car.

I used to have a white fiveohhh:D Was a good car, but was no cobra. I always wanted to get a set of cobra rims for it though I love that look.

If you want a low key sleeper, low mileage 1997 Thunderbird: $6000

3000 stall Stallion converter - $600
FRPP 3.73 IRS pumpkin - $600
Metal MAtrix Driveshaft - $400
P&P heads -$600
PI Cams - $150
Kooks headers -$300
New exhaust - $300
02 stang GT MAF - $100
Dyno Tune and chip by fordchip or any other SCT guy - $350

$9400

That'l get you easy 13's with a 2-ton luxury car with IRS.

Are you sure you want the IRS notfred? I've heard of some issues with the IRS on hard launches at the strip. Otherwise, I'd say if you can't splurge for a Mach1, go for it. I never liked that body style that much though... I like the more angular looking refresh.

The IRS can handle the 300hp no prob, we got guys with Lincoln MArkVIII's running FRPP pumpkins and they have 560rwhp.

Stock axles will hold up till about ~390-400. raxles.com makes some high end ones. If you don't plan to track it alot with slicks then I think stock axles will handle some forced induction fine.

Wheelhop on the otherhand.

You will need a pinion and subframe bracing, not to mention increasing the number of mount points to the body of the car.

Talked to the owner of the car, apparently he's living with an old friend of mine that I haven't talked to in a while now. That's kinda cool, I can ask my friend about the car :)

I might go see the car tomorrow, it's about 100 miles from here, so it's a bit of a drive.

About he IRS - I kinda like the idea of IRS, even though it may not be best at the drag strip. I don't think I'm going to set this car up quite the same way as the last one, anyway.
