I think I may be allergic to peanuts.

I like them. They don't give me anaphylaxis, but when I eat them they seem to ... how shall I say this, "set off my innards" rather violently in short order.

I should probably stop eating them.

Peanuts go bad if you open them and then let them sit out. The oils go rancid causing the aforementioned "angry innards." The oils get oxidized.

The expiration date on the side? Yeah thats for UNOPENED peanuts. I refridge my peanuts so they last longer once opened.

6/3/16 - I bought them yesterday.

This is my typical reaction to peanut ingestion by the way. Not that I have them often.

Maybe if you ate them more frequently, your system would adjust to them.

Let me tell that to my son who is allergic to them.

Maybe I should tell my daughter who is allergic to bees that she should go out and get stung a few times so her system adjusts to bee venom too... :hmm:

When I was a kid, we never heard about peanut allergies. So did all of the allergic kids die by the age of 4? PB&J were staples for most of us.

Pretty sure we don't even need a poll for this one.:p

No, of course not. But it didn't sound as though the OP was having an allergic reaction. No swelling, difficulty breathing, hives, etc.

Probably because allergies and autoimmune disorders in general are on a huge upward trend.

Wait, your son is allergic to peanuts and you are still eating them? Can't the slightest amount of contact cause a reaction in your son? Peanut oil on your hands, a crumb on your shirt or furniture, etc?

I have developed the exact same thing.

I love snacking on peanuts/mixed nuts but the cramping I get is painful.

I never had a problem before this year. Also, peanut butter does not cause this issue for me.

very odd.

Yeah, what's up with that? Seems like everyone and their dog is allergic to something these days. I barely remember anyone being allergic to anything major when I was a kid, aside from the occasional Paul Pfeiffer. :hmm:

I think it has to do with all of the parents avoiding giving certain foods to kids when they are young. For years doctors told people to avoid giving kids under one any of the big allergy items like peanuts, eggs, etc. Then the allergy rates actually rose. Now the thinking is the opposite. Expose them to small doses of the allergy items. The same goes for immune systems. Farm kids who are exposed to any and all dirt, germs, etc. from being outside more have more robust immune systems than city kids raised in a sterile environment.

I'm well versed in how peanut allergies work. Speaking of work, that's where I'm eating them. And we happen to have these things called "sinks", "soap" and "running water" here too...

Thankfully my son doesn't have a contact allergy or worse yet the "hey, I'm in the room with a single peanut and I'm choking up" version.

Bet you didn't know sesame seeds can trigger a peanut allergy reaction...

Washing hands/brushing teeth isn't enough to fully remove the allergen (it'll be in your saliva). I'm not sure how long that takes. Obviously if it's been working out so far for you then I guess it's ok.
