I think I killed my P4C CPU before I even installed it?

Mr FedEx just dropped off the rest of my PC Parts, among them are my ABIT IC7, and P4c Retail Boxed 2.4Ghz. As I was opening the hard plastic case surrounding the HSF & CPU, it was very difficult to open. So I really applied pressure on the edges as I was pulling open the plastic. Well it finally did open, and out flew the CPU!!

Well I was sitting in a chair about 30 inches off the ground, and the CPU kind of arced over and hit my Hardwood floor, landing on its pins. Now I don't know if I'm screwed or not? I looked at the CPU, and none of the ceramic, or PCB was cracked or chipped or anything, and all of the 478 socket pins were not bent at all.

Should I be worried? Is the CPU already Dead? Am I worrying to death, or maybe I should just wait until I actually put it in the new MB and power up, perhaps. Whats your opinion. Hopefully Intel packages the CPU core in the PGA to withstand a good amount of shock? I hope.

Opinions, comments, prayers welcome.

Edit: I seen in your rig that you already have your overclocking speed filled in? Is this wishful thinking or what?

Aww Come on man, thats not funny to even tease like that at a time like this.........But I know your kidding, so no big deal. As for my sys rig, YES you caught me. Wishfull thinking indeed. But All of the parts there, I do have. Yes, I suppose fibbing so soon, before it up and running is a bit presumptuous, but I know that my new rig will be able to O'C to that speed. If not, I will definitely report whatever final O'C speed I do get. And I will keep my word on that.

Assuming that none of the pins are bent, and the chip fits properly into the socket, you should be fine.

No way. Don't be worried. You can't even imagine how resistant those little and expansive toys are.
Once I droped one and smashed with my foot...

I spend 2 hours getting those pins straight again to fit on socket..

And it works just fine

That plastic casing is child proof. You can clearly see there are tabs on there that are supposed to be bursted if you want a smooth opening. Also, one corner of the plastic casing is easily seen as the point at which you pull. Next time, don't brute force the box, as it is rarely the answer. Rather, find a way to open it with efficiency. Oh, and, I'll top them both at a nice $25.

This couldn't possibly be as bad as putting an AMD Duron 1.3GHz (brand new...) upside down (core side on the HARD WOOD FLOOR) and then running it over with a rolly chair...The CPU still works...somehow....

Okay Everyone. Sorry it took such a long time to update anyone who is still interested in knowing. A few hours after the 'incident' occurred and I read everyone's posts, I started to realize that I was probably overreacting and that Yes, the CPU was probably fine. (But I guess that happens when you spend sooo much on something new.) And of course it was fine. But unfortunately I wasn't able to put my system together as quickly as I would of liked, and I was only able to turn the 'juice' on my new PC last Sunday night.

All is well, at least with the CPU. But............ I think I did my self a disservice to use the Western Digital Lifeguard Tools diskette that came with my new WD HD. When I boot into the XP Recovery consol, the drive is only recognized as one whole partition, not the 4 that I created with the Lifeguard tools? O well, now for that I think I will have to reformat my HD and reinstall windows to fix that problem. I also have a corrupt install of IE6, and the only way to fix that I guess to to re-install Windows.

Once I 'fix' all of that, Then I will start to O'C my system. BTW my CPU at idle is about 44 C temp wise. So that Zalman 7000AlCu and AS3 is working better than I thought. And maybe its even more so, as perhaps I should subtract 10 Degrees C from the 44, as I heard that the ABIT IC7 reports incorrect temps?

As usual, any comments, tips suggestions are welcome.
