I think I just severely decreased the life of my SSD

I used CrystalDiskMark to benchmark my SSD after installing Windows 7, but last night I decided to try AS SSD just to make sure that the numbers were correct. I ran AS SSD and left it running, then I went to bed thinking "I'll check the results tomorrow". Fuck... this morning I woke up and noticed that the damn benchmark was still running. I think it runs in an infinite loop.... why would someone design a benchmark tool for SSD's that runs 24/7???

Since that's not the default setting (at least for my version it isn't), seems like you found an advanced feature ;)

And I assume it's there for stress testing (seeing how good TRIM/GC is,..)

So, your SSD will now last 7 years 5 months instead of 9 years.

That's strange -- the AS SSD installation I have (1.6.4067.34354) runs once and stops. I don't even see an option to set it for running continuously.

you COULD just check your SSD's remaining lifespan. It reports it via SMART

first time I've seen that happen too. which SSD are you using?

and Zap's right. all this monkeying with moving everything possible off the SSD to save 2GB's of writes per month is wasted time aside from freeing up some resources on ocassion. Most here will have updated twice over by the time the current model is read only. Probably won't even be fit for a netbook by then as the one that you buy in the netbook will still be faster. lol

Ok, I know I'm too paranoid about the lifespan of the SSD (A Crucial C300), but the benchmark did run during the whole night... or at least it seems like it did... My computer is always on and no standby or sleep options are enabled...

I see no point of running these benchmarks often if your drive supports TRIM. Results won't change much.

My benchmark was the first time I installed the SSD's. After running the WD6400AAKS, which was pretty good for a spindle drive, the very noticeable boot up times, opening programs, installing and everything else, it seemed very clear how much a difference the SSD had made to my setup.

You mean after everything we say and even Anand himself says in his SSD articles, you would still rather trust some random benchmark than us?

Unbelievable! :colbert:

TBH, I still think my 6400AAKS drives are fine. I don't really want or am interested in any SSD.

YES. I like to read informative threads, you learn a lot from them. :)

Yes they are very good drives But I truly have to say they don't hold a candle to the superior SSD when it comes to speed. I use the WD 6400AAKS as backup drives. Pretty good combo I think :)

You should probably image the OS, secure erase the SSD, reimage the OS back to the SSD, stop benchmarking it, and just use it.

What does that mean? "It seems like it did" ? It either did, or didn't.
And since everyone else who has ever run this program has seen, it only does it once... I think you were dreaming or something. ;)

look, the benchmark? it already ran...
so how about you just look up your SMART status and see how much remaining lifespan your SSD has?

You know that's starting to sound like some stealth marketing - you don't have to mention how great your OCZ drives are in every completely unrelated thread..

That's great!

I'm glad you still have your sense of humor in this den of "OCZ" haters.

In the long and short run all this stuff is inconsequential and I'm glad when someone recognizes it as such.

Now.....what about that crappy OCZ company?

is surely a bad interpretation then.. cause I was just kidding about someone being obnoxious and calling another member a whore. But I guess you have a point about one obnoxious post not canceling out another.

I tell people what I like and usually try to give perspective based on experience. If you don't like the mfgr?.. well.. that's your problem not mine. I don't work for them nor do I get compensation of any sort for plugging their products. Regardless of that I'm usually just here to learn and share.

And FYI.. "enjoy" seems to be quite different than explaining "how great" they are becuase if that were the case I would'nt have just made a quick joke about how much crap I've taken here for "enjoying them".

I guess I'm talking from a different view.

I'm one of those guys that had the death experience with the white light, saw all my deceased relatives, and watched the guys bring me back to life.

Ever since then my defination of "it doesn't mean anything" has changed drastically.

I'm sorry if I made bad interpretation. :)

I realized SSD durability is something all new owners fear.

Once u have a SSD, and u abused it, the second SSD isnt as fragile as you think it is.

LOL...

Make things short, ive been beating up my intel's in Raid0. Im not going easy on them at all, because a friend said if i was to kill them, he would give me new G3's.

So i am beating them up with normal usage.

And i can tell ya, SSD's are not as fragile as they were when they first came out.
And most likely it will probably outlast your normal usage.

Meaning Chances and Odds predict, u will run out of space and get a new SSD b4 u kill an SSD.

Thats what happened to me here... got 2.. ran out of space.. got one more.. wanted more space.. ended it with a 256giger...

Now im waiting for my intels to die.. if they ever die... so i can replace those 3 with G3's.
