I think I just got owned

So I was emailing my boss...

Pc freezes...PC crashes....I lok at it "WTF!?"

So I reboot. Damn thing restarts when the Windows bar is on the screen. 😕
I try the windows setup disk...it crashes due to page fault....😕

I then try and take out the hardrive, put it in an external firewire enclosure and connect it to the pc I am using now...

It takes a minute to show up in 'My Computer,' and once the drive initiates, the PC restarts😕

....And, yes, I had JUST installed Norton Antivirus before this happened...the PC was 'Live-updating' while I was writing the email.

DAMN YOU NORTON!!!!

<--didn't learn his lesson the last time Norton killed his pc🙁

I'll and put the HD (brand new Seagate 120GB that a friend gave me) in the PC via the IDE, but I am sure it will nuke the PC for some unknown reason:|

..and to all of you..have a gloriously sh!!ty Day 😀😀

Hugs and kisses:lips:

never had a problem w/ nortons software.

sounds more like a hardware problem? hdd probably has a couple bad sectors on it and near dead. happens to even the newest of hdd's.

Aye. That's what I'm thinking..sadly, I let it run for a week before I formated the drive I mirrored onto it:|

Now I have to figure out how to save my emails without actually being able to boot into windows and export them to a pst....:|

Oh, and the error occured after I Installed Norton SystemWorks/Internet Security:|...sorry bout that..Norton AV, by itself, has been pretty decent.

download seagates diagnostic floppy disk image, and boot to it, then test the hard drive with it. it's possible you can still get your data, likely something on the drives tables is corupted sending the kill signal to your system causing a restart.

I tried that. The diagnostics freeze. I finally got it to format using their utilities, and although that seemed to work, windows still restarts.

Well, what do you know...

I tried it in the external firewire enclosure, formatted it in windows, and am running chkdsk /r.

Lets wait and see.
