Scopolamine is known about in Colombia. There were some stories of Taxi drivers using it on female customers and it is pretty much analogous to Rohypnol. I.e., do a fucking story about Rohypnol and actually take it, it's a little more relevant to a North American.

Story is epic in it's failure, but yay sensationalist journalism.

<--- Checked story with my Wife, who is a Bogotainian born and bred.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopolamine

In a bizarre case, a band of female thieves would impregnate their breasts with scopolamine and then would lure potential victims to lick their nipples. "Losing all willpower, the men readily gave up their bank access codes. The breast-temptress thieves then held them hostage for days while draining their accounts."[15] In June 2008, more than 20 people were hospitalized with psychosis in Norway after ingesting counterfeit Rohypnol tablets containing scopolamine. [3] There have been many reports of tourists robbed after having scopolamine slipped into drinks in bars, as well as food saturated with scopolamine being served to tourists in fast-food stands in various Asian countries. Most recently, these incidents have been reported in Thailand.

so what are the effects?
Lucky for you, my former boss tried to kill himself with this stuff. He had a headache, then he got dizzy, then he fell on the floor. I called 911 and the paramedics didn't have a clue what was wrong with him. He was gone from work for a really really long time. I don't know if he was sick or just milking it. He was a lazy bastard, so I assume the later.

He must be the all time worst pharmacist in history. If you're a pharmacist and you can't even figure out how to kill yourself properly, you probably suck at being a pharmacist.

I think the real point of the article was to highlight VICE's journalistic style, which is very similar to a blog as noted above. Apparently, they're fully transparent, and you get your articles fully unedited, even one's that shouldn't have been articles in the first place. I'm not sure I agree with that approach. Anybody can do crappy journalism. It takes talent to condense a lot of information into a compelling story. There's something to be said for presenting raw information though. It's a quantity vs quality judgment call.
