I think I ingested Liquid Plumr.

So my bathtub is clogged with a ton of hair and skin flakes and other greasy stuff so it's been running slow as molasses.

Anyway, after using half a bottle and following directions, sure enough, the clog went from slow drain to no drain. Ah well, I decided to plunge a little bit with some water and my bare hands and forgot I had some chicken cooking.

So fine, I went to taste a piece of chicken cooking while my hand was still probably wet from the chemical. Chicken tasted pretty good. But then I said oh crap, I had Liquid Plumbr on it.

Am I gonna die?

Anyway, after a second shot of the Liquid Plumbr and some boiling hot water, the drains running pretty freely now, not perfect, but I used up the whole bottle. Tomorrow I'll get another bottle and see what's up.

Pretty happy that it's running better, but I want perfect.

Sometimes, I'm glad I'm hardcore OCD and keep a second by second account of when my hands are "dirty," "clean," and "clean enough to eat off of."

Do you know what happened to the last person who accidentally ingested Liquid Plumr?
He turned into this:

Good luck with your new Goomba-stomping career.

lol yea - the problem was, I got so caught up with the damned drain that I almost burned my chicken and was testing to see how well it was cooked inside. 🙂

1 hour update, I am not dead and the drain is flowing extremely free. Who would have thought crap like Liquid Plumr works. lol

Smells like bleach to me.

That's why I said drink a shot of vinegar ;^)

It works by being extremely base. It probably has some surfactants, and some other things to make it contact crud better, but the "dangerous" part is probably its pH

Wait wait wait. So next time I could just buy some Clorox and dump it down there?

I don't think it's strong enough. Plus, it doesn't have the secret sauce to get to everything. I think LP is thick, no? Bleach before it gets to a clogged state might help keep it clear. Base+fat=soap

pH of Liquid Plumbr = 12
pH of 6% bleach = 12.6

Liquid Plumbr has stuff to make it immiscible in water and dense so that it sinks through the water column until it hits the clog (or the trap). Bleach will dissolve and mix into the water column and therefore be less effective at the clog.

Enzymatic drain cleaners are gentler on the plumbing and better for maintaining clear pipes.

A small amount should be fine. We injest more crap into our body through every day breathing due to how polluted the air is, especially if you live in a big city.

I've also used bleach to unblock drains, though I also tried a bunch of other stuff at the same time so hard to tell which one worked or if they all worked together. Liquid plumber has a foaming action though so that will work better than something that's just a plain liquid.

No, clorox is just bleach and it's not terribly basic. Liquid plumber is a mix of potassium hydroxide and peroxide...The hydroxide dissolves any fat or grease and helps break down protein, the peroxide helps chew up protein and oxidized other stuff. Bleach will be bad for pipes and may release chlorine gas which will kill you dead.

"Immiscible."

:fap:

get a hair trap. Don't pour that poison down your drain.

and certainly don't dump a second bottle down there. that's insane.
