I think I have my new laptop

Acer Aspire AS5672WLMI (specs are here for those who don't want to look it up), Windows Vista beta when I can run it (have the ISO dl'd and ready to burn).

I have a few questions, though.

Intel Core Duo T2300 processor: is that 64-bit or just 32-bit? Because if it's 32, I might want to go with 64.

It has an ATI MR X1400 as a ded. vid. card. How's that run? I haven't been able to find scores for it online.

Is Acer well-supported? I've heard tell they're one of the better brands...

Did u consider a new Intel based Mac notebook? Macs can dual boot into both Windows and OS X. More value and bang for the buck.

Explain how it's more value. He'd have to purchase a new OS. Not to mention that Mac machines are more expensive than PC laptops (spec for spec). Then you have to buy and support software for two different OS's?

If you want Windows, get a PC.

I don't suppose anybody's willing to answer the three questions I posed in the OP. Rather, they seem to enjoy making suggestions of Macintoshes or telling me I'm the worst thing since Hitler for posting this in a forum that, while it is certainly on the same topic, is not the most specific forum for my particular questions.

Core duo(Yonah) is 32bit. Merom is 64bit, but won't be out for a few more months. They are supposed compatible with core duo, so you should be able to upgrade when they are released. The X1400 is a pretty low end video card, so if you are planning on doing some gaming, and want to use high settings it won't do all that well.

I am at the Apple store right now you should consider the macbook it's a nice comp for the price. I am currently on the macbook pro 17'' though 🙂
even though I don't own a mac I still have respect for them.

How about the X1600? I've found an Acer with an X1600, pretty inexpensive, and it only really needs a RAM upgrade (it comes with 2x512mb, if I get it I'll also purchase 2x1gb sticks to install).

Oh, the drama

It was a simple link to the correct forum where I thought you'd get more help. How you think this forum is more appropriate is beyond me.

Hitler couldn't admit he was wrong either 😛

There is the Acer Travelmate 8204 which is nice it has a X1600 256mb, 2GB, I think like 100-120GB it's on newegg as i remember 15.4in at 1680x1050

The Acer 8200 is on Newegg with specs close to what you mention, but it's about $800 more expensive compared to the $140 for the RAM upgrade.
