So, I have 3 24 core servers, but 2 are turned off, as they don't get enough PPD to power on (20-40k ppd each), and the third is only on, since I have 3 1070's in the box.

So for some reason (I blame it on Tony) I felt compelled to buy a 28 thread CPU, motherboard, case and memory that I really can't afford.

NOW I just bought 2 16 core CPU's and 16 gig of registered DDR3 to upgrade one of the 24 core boxes that is not even powered on.!

What is wrong with me ? Am I possessed ? Mentally ill ?

Not really. You just do as many of us also do.
You probably are waiting for some 1070 or 1080 to drop in price so you can power up one or two other computers and make the power company more happy.
You also - probably - have a very competitive streak.

I am in a similar position just now: I have a Intel i7-3930 CPU, 8 GBytes of RAM, a Noctua cooler, a very nice case, a 256 GB SSD, a 2 TB HHD, any number of case fans.
I lack a good enough GPU and a mother board.

I would be tickled to enormous joy if I found a mobo for the CPU, but I can not find one in Sweden ...
E-Bay is not a good solution for me, because i would have to pay a 23% customs tax (corresponds to VAT) to anything I buy through e-bay ...
Still looking - if anybody sees a mobo from a seller who would send to Sweden, let me know ...
The computer would be used for DC only.

Similar symtoms, same disorder. Trust me, I am a doctor ;)

Peter, is the shipping fee from the US prohibitive or is it just prohibited?

I would love to have your CPU threads for World Community Grid! My newest box that runs 24/7 has a measly 2500K in it. The rest of my 24/7 arsenal includes an i7-970, X6-1055T, i5-760 and lastly, the elderly Q9550. I don't count the rigs in my sig, as those only run projects on occasion. And even those rigs are getting old. If I were to fold full time, I don't think I would even bother with the CPU and just stick with a few high end GPUs.

Two young kids doesn't let me buy much in computer hardware these days, but I'm hoping when my daughter is out of daycare in a few years, I'll be able to get some new boxes. The other plan is to sell all my dedicated rigs and replace them with 2 or 3 Zen 8C/16T CPUs depending on how reviews fare.

Well, the one motherboard that is going to hold my 2 5639's has no PCI-E slot, just integrated graphics. I would let it go cheap, mobo and CPU's. Where are you Zipspeed ? close to me in the US, and we could probably make a deal !

The shipping fee is no problem, but the duty fee (when buying from a company) is, because the customs office calculates it either from an invoice, or, if there is no invoice, from a price list (what the component costs in the EU).
I have bought stuff from private persons. The components were shipped as "used" from private person to me and there were no problems (i.e. no customs tax) at all.

I live in Canada. Shipping and customs would probably kill any possible deals. Thanks though, but after spending more than I should have during the holiday season, it's back to pinching pennies for now!

Calgary, Alberta. Not too far from Spokane, relatively speaking. About a day to get there including crossing the border and pitstops. We stopped there in summer 2015 as we were working our way slowly west to visit family in Seattle. Quite a scenic drive, especially the part through Montana. As for the border, I always declare what I bring back as I have no intentions of messing with Canada Border Services. Whether i get dinged for bringing back computer parts will be up to the CBSA officer.

UPS sucks. USPS for a 3 pound package to Sweden is 67.80 3~5 days service Priorty Mail Express. USPS gives better service than the brown truck and usually just as fast or faster.

Wow 435 miles to Kettle falls Washington (where I will be), Well, it you want to take a vacation around then, let me know. Crap. I really hate for hardware to be idle that is perfectly good !!!!

Oh, and my sister-in-law works for the department of homeland security on the border north of Kettle falls, that's who I will be visiting.

Well, this looks a bit higher than I usually paid ... it was around 60 USD 2 years ago, which really is not a problem.
A used mobo with a socket 2011 (not 2011-3!) is in Sweden around 325 USD (if you can find one!!!) so the price in the US should be less than 200 USD if it I would really consider it. Just not just now, after Christmas my funds are really low ... I´ll keep looking ...

I can't find any 2011 motherboards on newegg, but there is a 2011-3 for $165 US and $6 shipping, which I am sure is low., and it will run your chip.

Besides X79 based boards, many C602 and perhaps C600 boards support i7 too. They wouldn't offer overclocking though, thus lose some of the potential of Sandy Bridge-E. As for the cooler, many C60x boards have the same square ILM as X79 boards, and for narrow ILM you could get a mounting adapter from Noctua. --- But I guess C60x boards are similarly rare and expensive as X79 ones.
