i think i got scammed

i think i just got scammed on this cell phone forum.

heres the story.

My phone just craped out, so i needed it's filmware flashed. This one guy who flashes and sells phones was very popular in this area. repair phones and sending them back within 2 days. He was cheap and reialble and everything. He had about 50 satified customers. So then i finally said what the hell i need my phone fixed and he was the only way. Sent it to him on the 12nd of april USPS tracking said he got it the 14th. No contact with him what so ever now. then i just assume he was busy now one of the admin made a stick like on the 18th about the guy being a possible fraud and that just dissappear off the face of the earth.

the admin asked ppl to PM the info if they bought or got their phone repaired and if they sent the phone to him. He got the cops invovled as well. i PM him all my info. Now is there any more i can do on my own?

I got the money order copy, my phone's serial number and his info. that i gave all to him. can i do something on my own to help?

How would one deal with this, say if it was you.

Oh yea a member who sent him the phone, went to pay the man a visit to check on the status of the phone and the person who answered the door said no one lived there by that name.
 
the phone was like $100 or so. it was an N-gage. Now i duno what to do. maybe i'll just pick up a new phone or w/e

should i file my own police report?

If your phone crapped out, can the service provider or the manufacturer fix it?

oh and my phone crapped out and it was an out of warranty phone. since it was 2 years old. Tmobile couldn't cover it. I asked nokia a couple of times and they treated me like a dumbass over and over again, assuming that i didn't know anything.

Listen, if you want this worked out..

1) Call the local police in ARLINGTON, TX and give them the name & address you sent it to.
2) Contact your local postmaster and let them know of your situation.
3) Post up a real address and see if any of the ATOT Sleuths can find ya a phone number.

4) Call your cell provider and mark it as STOLEN! That way if they sell it or try to activate it, it will not work and can be tracked.

Agreed. Why are you rationing out the information about this guy? He screwed you. You don't need to be concerned about him. Post every bit of information that might help people track him down. Name, address, email headers, other names, company names, etc can all help people.
 
actually i'm getting my phone back. one of the admins from howardforums. got in touch with cops and all that it turns out he kept a whole lot of other ppl's phones. nokia got involved in this as well.

my question is now. How do i go about getting my money back, i paid him with a money order and i assume it shall be returned to me. money order is filled out to his name. I have the recepit and the main copy. Can i return it? say i wrote down the wrong name or something?
 
you might also want to PM a mod or someone at TrollHunters and warn them about this person. Chances are he will start this up again with a different user name... but if the PTB here have his info... address , phone number, email address... etc... they might be able to better protect the anandtech community.
