I think I fried my CPU, need help picking a new one

Hey, I have an a-bit kt7-raid board that had an AMD t-bird 800mhz chip in it. Well, the other day I am pretty sure I fried it, it won't post, but everything is powering up (no error beeps).. so I had to take it to a local computer store to get it checked out because I don't have a spare cpu around that I can try.

Anyways, if it turns out to be the CPU I am going to have to get a new one to put in it. I am wondering what is the best CPU I can get to put it in? I think the kt7-raid only has a 100mhz fsb for the cpu and 133mhz fsb for the ram.. but I could be mistaken. I have been looking at the AMD t-bird 1.33ghz, but it runs @ a 266mhz bus.. will I still be able to use this processor, and if so.. since it runs at 266 and I won't be able to run it at that, will it not actually run at 1.33ghz? what exactly will it run at? Any other cpu suggestions would be appreciated.. i'm confused about the bus speeds, so i'm really not sure as to what cpu I should be buying.

the board doesn't support the 266 bus, so no you can't put it in and run it at that speed... if you put it in you have to run it at 1.0GHz... those mobos FSB didn't overclock well either... so basically you can't

Ok the reason....

your board ONLY support 100mhz FSB, and the CPU has a multiplier of 10.

Therefore 100mhz FSB x 10 = 1000mhz
It should be 133mhz FSB x 10 = 1333mhz.

Of course you can do the famous pencil trick and overclock the cpu to the highest your board supports (probbably 12.5 mutliplier so 1250mhz).

I guess what I am looking for is for someone to tell me what is the best CPU I can put in my a-bit kt7-raid board considering speed/price? It seems like a bit of a waste to buy a 1.33ghz cpu and only run it at 1ghz. Is there another processor that will run higher? or am I going to have the same problem with all of them. Do they all run at 266 like the 1.33? As you can see, I am a bit confused about the fsb etc.. I thought I could just drop in a 1.33ghz cpu and it would run at 1.33ghz ... but i guess that is not the case. What would you guys do in this situation? what CPU would you buy to put in?

What if I get an Athlon 1200mhz CPU w/ a 200mhz fsb? Would this be a good choice?

Ok well most KT133 board's multiplier maxes at 12.5 but 1250mhz is not your max. If you get a cpu with a higher mutliplier it will bypass it. You should be able to run up to a 1400 Athlon (thunderbird) just make sure it is the "B" version or 100/200mhz fsb. Or if cost is that big of an issues you can pick up a 1.3 Duron real cheap.

I dunno but if you already have the 1.33 I wouldn't bother getting a new one. I would just unlock the muliplier (search for "AMD Pencil Trick" on google or what not) then set your multiplier in the bios to 12.5 and just run at 1250mhz.
