I think I might have fried my video and sound cards with static electricity. They still work but the're acting wierdly. When I run the CS:S stress test, the little things that spin in the beginning, those models, well, they're not there. Instead a red model saying "ERROR" is spinning there. Also, every one in a while, my sound card starts making these staticky noised through speakers. I returned everything to stock speeds but nothing. Think I fried it?

Well, I returned everything to stock... so I doubt it's the mobo. I opened my case to clear it up a bit to allow for more airflow. I also moved the sound card down two slots. I ran my computer for like a minute with the case open and I think I touched it, but I'm pretty sure I was grounded. After all, I had just touched metal on my case a few seconds ago.

NO...I am saying maybe the mobo is going haywire...it wouldn't matter what speed stock or not....PLus I find it hard you discharged on 2 cards simultaneously.....

True. Hmm, What should my NBV and SBV be around? Might that affect it? I mean, it was working fine, I don't know what happened.

Are you having problems with other programs/games?

The error you're describing sounds like a software bug. I've seen several other threads over the past few days describing the same problem. It seems to kick in after a Steam update. I think Valve knows about the issue and are fixing it or it is fixed with the most recent update.

Solution: wait for the next update?

Static electricty can certainly be an issue, but it wouldn't be my FIRST assumption. I think that if you fried your video card you would be seeing a lot worse that an error model in SST. I think you should check for any driver updates on whatever hardware you may have (not just the problem cards) and see if that helps. If you're only having problems with CS then I agree with Rike, wait for an update, I think they happen pretty regularly.

True, a fried card of any kind usually won't work AT ALL. So I doubt you fried it, probably the motherboard. I doubt you fried anything, otherwise the computer wouldn't really be working period.

The red ERROR's are a software problem, happening to a lot of people. The panel models were missing in the last 2 CS:S updates, so the ERRORs are in their place.

Yes, alright guys, I think I went a little overboard to assume I fried them, because now I'm playing music and it sounds crystal clear, no static like in CS:S. Most likely what you said, Valve screwed up on their last update.

Exact Same Problem I Have
So yea, it's Steam.
