I think I found a use for the HDD 2 LED on my Inwin Q500

My ECS K7S5a has onboard LAN but, of course, it doesn't have the little LAN LED. My extra HDD LED would be perfect for this but I don't think the cable is long enough. Are there any LED connector extension cables?

Just cut the wires and get some stranded 24AWG wire and solder in more wire.

Cheers!

That's a cool idea btw. If your LAN is full duplex (ie switched) the activity light should ONLY be in use when your computer is RX/TX traffic.

It turns out the cable is long enough. I just need to split it away from the rest of the cables. This is pretty cool. I finally have the little LED again. :)

I took out the two LEDs from the ethernet card and put it to the front of my case, it looks cool. Just punched two holes for the LEDs and I've done, simple and effectivelly cool.

That is a good use, Igowerf . . . and here is yet another!

I have been doing this for about two years . . . I connect the #2HDD LED to my SCSI adapter. It has a pair of pins just for that. So, I see one LED when IDE is working and the other when SCSI is working.

I think I'll rig up a 3rd one to have the NIC LED extended to the front . . . like who sees the back end of a computer! :)

Thanks for the idea.
