Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions...... I narrowed the problem down and think I've isolated it.... it APPEARS that the KT7A was experiencing problems with the Soundblaster 5.1 Platinum LIVE DRIVE which is basically an audio input device. I had absolutely NO hardware or resource conflicts so it was perplexing and they werent sharing any memory addresses BUT as soon as I unplugged its IDE cable which connects it to the sound card, the problem went away.....

I can live without the LiveDrive but its a drag as that extra piece cost about $75 more than the basic card......

Sorry I missed your first request, I have only just started reading the motherboard forum. When my Dad's hard drive went intermittently bad, different bad sectors on every Scandisk, we bought a big drive, copied what we could from the flakey drive, and left the flake in there still powered and on the IDE cable. Ooops, Windows 95 starting taking 3-4 minutes to boot where it was 40 seconds before, and after boot, speed was poor. Apparently the flakey drive was talking insanely on the IDE bus and loading it down.

My incident and yours just reinforces the testing method of removing components until the bad one is isolated. Glad you worked it out.
