I had no choice butto go out in the snow storm. Natick to Lowell, MA. It took 4 hours. to get there and 4 hours to get back.

I go to work today and my car just shakes violently... I mean...wow...I feel motion sick now....and this was only going around 35 mph.

You think I just need a wheel alignment? I checked tire pressure, it was with in car spec. Did taking my car out yesterday really damage it?

There is probably snow built up on the wheels causing them to become unbalanced. Clear off the snow and you'll be fine.

That's exactly what happened to my friends car and I told him the same thing. He cleared the snow from his wheels and it was fine after that.
 
If you didn't hit anything or run up any curbs yesterday your car should be fine. I agree with iamwiz82 that there is probably snow build-up on/in your wheels. check the inside of the wheel where the snow can get packed and frozen and really throw your car off wack.
It's happened to me more than once.

as long as he didn't hit anything, this is what the problem is.
 
The shake is caused by an asymmetry in the the semi-cervical bearings in your axle as a result of extended cold weather operation. This is a common problem in the 3, but mazda refuses to deal with it. Repairs are almost $1000. Sorry to hear it.

Actually, it's probably just snow build up and will be fine later, but "shaking" isn't really a great description, so who knows.
 
I tend to agree .. snow build up in or around the wheels. My Grand Prix likes to build up snow in the wheel wells during a storm. Best bet, take it thru a car wash .. that will get most of the crap out and then see what it does. If need be turn the front wheels to both stops and look inside the wheels to see if any snow or ice has built up in there.

Thanks. took a big clump of snow out. All is good.....but i realized that my tires do not have tread left either....driving up hills is a chore now🙁
 
Had the same thing happen to me today. I had pulled my car out and had checked the wheels for ice. I missed a small bit. Only noticed it when the car got to 65 mph.

how do you not? AFter you buy the tire, you still have to INSTALL them.

They are 17 inch tires....

They are 146 a piece (before match)

include mounting

include alignment

include TPMS overhaul (required if you have TPMS)

include tax



yeah, that is $800. With the match, I save $100...so that is only $700....but it is still alot.
 
What kind of tires are you getting? I can usually get tires for our van bought and mounted for less than half that. If the vehicle is for transportation and not performance there's plenty of decent tires for a decent price.
 
800 is too much for tires and installation. I just got new tires from discounttiredirect.com for my Mazda6 and everything probably cost me about 500. I spent about $350 for tires, $80 for mounting and balancing and $75 for alignment.
Nowhere close to $800.
 
they are 205/50/17 tires.

They are performace tires. Other tires do not exist at that size. They are what are stock on the mazda 3s Sport 5 door.

they are atleast $100 a tire...unless you decide to get Khumo, which I was going too, but shipping killed it.

I was quoted this:

4 tires @ 146 each
alignment @ $50
mount @ 17 each
TPMS @ 13 each (required on ALL cars with TPMS)

that is 754 + tax

However, I found discounts:
My discounts:

Match tires at $114 each (-128)
10% work discount (-62.60)

new total = 563.40 + tax

So...without my discounts, it's very possible to pay $800.

 
I have the Mazda 6 and I know what you mean by the tires. Low-profile, alloy rim, soft-rubber michelin's are nice and pricy. Though they make better ones for all weather climates from Michelin however the OEM wheels will give you the best performance on dry surfaces.

The same happened to my Accord 2 days ago and now it is fine again...
Snow + Ice buildup in suspension will cause some temporary problems, but the car will be fine - mine is...

Ya, my first thought was I'd be snappin' up them Kumho ASX's and be done with it for under $500!!!

I don't care what tires you've got in the snow.........unless they're studded.......forget it!!

After that, during summer, who cares!
