I was really in tune with my character and that was all of the story I needed, though I did complete pretty much every side quest and talked to my companions while on the ship quite a bit, so most of them felt pretty flushed out to me by the end of the game. The story was decent enough for what it was, like any of Cameron's cheesy sci-fi flicks; fun, but cliche and kind of cheesy.

Not sure specifically what it was that hooked me so much; it was just fun gameplay and I my character really grabbed me, so I wanted to see where everything would go. Good times.

Did you read the codex as well? I remember when I first played the game, I spent probably a good while reading all the codex entries. That's what really made me fall in love with that game... the fact that there was a backstory to nearly everything.

Yep, I read every entry and listened to all of the voice ones. Definitely added a lot to the back story. I guess some will not want to do that, or do not feel you should need to do that, but I really enjoyed it as it helped create a richer universe.

Just finished as well and I have to say that I enjoyed this game more-so than any other game I've played in quite some time. The story was pretty compelling, the character development was pretty good and the world(s) kept me sucked in! I think I took longer than most people do to finish (about 42 hours), but a lot of that was because I'm kind of weird about not exploring in a game like this. I look in every locked container, drive around on pretty much every world and checked through every asteroid belt/planet/etc.

It was a good game, but if I were to change one thing it would be driving all over multiple planets to get to the next "checkpoint". It was fun for a while, but it got old going from anomaly to debris field (just to get some stupid incendiary rounds every time!). Other than that it was a phenomenal experience for me and I'm looking forward to ME2 after I get through Fallout: New Vegas.

I just finished ME last night and it shot straight into my top 10 greatest games of all time... even if there were a few glitches. I had to go out of my way a few times w\ bugs in the game and reset my shader cache... and then at the VERY END.. yes.. the VERY END!!! I got the overheat bug.

I got to the Saren fight and all of my guns were stuck on full overheat, so I couldn't shoot him. I slowly got my teamates to fire at him but then I couldn't finish the game like that so I had to load a previous save and re-do some of the level.

Started ME2 last night and like it so far. Not really a fan of the total change of controls, but I'll get over it.

ME2 is not grabbing me like the first game. I like it and I'm having some fun with it, but I only play about an hour or two at a time before I've had enough and turn it off. The first game was like crack, but ME2 is like cheap, warm beer; I'll still drink it, but I'm not constantly craving it.

I'd agree. I was sick and played the whole game through (about 43 hours for me) in a week and a half. I'm downloading the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC right now. I can't get enough of this game!

That's not surprising. I was really annoyed with ME2 at first because I was pissed with how much they changed the core mechanics, but it slowly grew on me. That said, ME1's story is a lot better than ME2's story.

ME2 is both my favorite game of 2010, and my most disappointing game of 2010. Sounds contradictory, I know, but I had such high hopes for the game, but it feels like they stalled with ME2.

I just finished ME1 a few days ago. I had mixed feelings about it. I absolutely hated the combat. I also thought the driving around the planet was cool for about the first 3-4 planets after that, it was just another cheap mechanic to "lengthen" the game with no real diversity. At the same time, the story was enough to keep me going and I actually finished it, which is rare for me.

The biggest issue I had was the items. I never bought a single thing...didn't need to. Not only that, you got so much that I pretty much just started gelling it all.
