So many times this thing can't figure out the spelling of something that MS Office can do in a snap.

Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for.

But you didn't pay anything. If you drop Open Office, it will be a defeat for the Open Source Project. Every single person counts. Don't give in to the dark side.

Is spelling such a hard, difficult task?

Microsoft ownz joo

I'll take Openoffice for free over MS Office and $$$. I think it will continue to improve over time. If I was in a production environment and Openoffice didn't do what I needed I would look into Corel Wordperfect suit before I would use MS Office.

I will admit I do use Word 2000, but that was the last version of Word I will buy. What are they doing releasing a new version every year? At least with Openoffice the updates are free.

I personally hate Corel Wordperfect.

Why?I haven't used it since the 2000 version, but it was pretty good, and cheap too. I thik I paid $80.00 for the whole office suit.

OpenOffice is the bomb diggity.
If you don't like the spell checker, you are free to improve it. Have fun trying to improve Microsoft Office. Enjoy the forced upgrades, document incompatibility, and closed file formats. The price tag isn't bad either!

I don't nkow. The layouts just don't seem natural to me. Its all pet peeves really. I hate how they all open in the same app window (probably an option I never figured out) and that when you right click a doc, the close option isn't on the bottom. I always hit more info and then it just annoys me.

dumb question, but

As you use it and check your spelling, don't you add correctly spelled words to its dictionary?

It was bad when I started. After 2 weeks of writing, it has 95+% of my vocabulary.

If you're really stuck, just copy the word as you've spelled it and search for it in google. Auto spellcheck.

what words is it missing? the only problem i found w/ OO (1.0, haven't tried 1.1) was i could NOT default it to inches for the rulers. and i could not get the side ruler to stay open by default. and the thesaurus sucked (no, i'm not going to broaden my vocabulary 😛).
