I Think Fry's Screwed Me

Alright, I was looking at my reciept yesterday, from when I built my computer... here's the deal, I bought all my original parts on May 20th... But I didn't really know what I was doing, so I let them sell me Corsair 3200C2 memory, instead of TwinX memory. I purchased 2 512mb sticks for $140. The next day, as I prepared to put my computer togther, I looked on the internet, and realized that my sticks weren't matched TwinX sticks. So I go back the next day and return the RAM. I asked for TwinX ram. They gave me TwinX1024 3200LLPT ram, for $269.99. Just yesterday, I started wandering what the heck PT means... well, it means platinum. My RAM is plain black... with no fancy platinum heat spreaders.

What should I do? It says on the return page that you have to return chips and memory within 15 days... but the way I see it, they charged me for something that I straight DID NOT GET. I've dealt w/ Fry's before, when returning the other ram, and it's generally just a PITA. I think if I said anything now, they'd thumb their noses at me and tell me I'm too late... What do you guys think I should do?

i think you should never go back to fry's.

i also think theres no difference between regular corsair and the twinx line.

I'm going to Fry's when they open today because I need blue LED fans and a PATA->SATA adapter and a black CDRW\DVD to go w/ my new case... which should be getting here today.

So I figure as long as I'm gonna have to gut my computer to move it to a new case... AND I'm going to Fry's... I might as well raise hell, right?

Give em hell for me too. I tried buying an XBox bundle with JSRF/Sega GT 2002 and an extra controller for 179 (as advertised in the papers). Well little did they know the XBox w/ games are discontinued and they only had one left and it was open box with the games missing and they wanted to sell it to me at regular price. They would not give me the games seperatly or discount me the system.

When you say your RAM is "plain black" do you mean that it has black colored heatspreaders on it? Does it say "TwinX1024 3200LL" on the stickers pasted onto the heatspreaders? If so, you're OK.

The only difference between the TwinX1024 3200LL and the TwinX1024 3200LLPT is that the "LL" has black heatspreaders on it and the "LLPT" has silver heatspreaders on it. The "PT" stands for "platinum". Underneath it's the exact same RAM and performs the same. It's like the exact same model of a car but one is painted black and the other is silver. You did not get screwed unless you really, really want RAM with silver heatspreaders.

Well, I've ordered a show case, flashing HD coolers, and I'm heading to buy some blue LED fans from Fry's today... so yeah, the blang blang memory is kinda important to me. I know it's the same, other than the PT... I deserve platinum, because I paid for platinum.

The Corsair "platinum" heatspreader color looks like plain old basic aluminum to me. Personally the black is a lot cleaner. However, if you were to get Geil PC3500 Plat/Ultra Plat then you'd have some Bling Bling.

As far as I know, there's no extra charge for the Platinum spreaders so you didn't get screwed by paying more than for the "regular" black heat spreaders. I have both types and I think the Platinum looks cheaper than the black because it looks like bare aluminum (because it is).

If you want bling, look at the Mushkin RAM. They have about 6 different colored heat spreaders (copper, black, green, blue, purple, red).

chicks dig guys with colored RAM.

Just try it, you'll never know. Maybe you get to meet with their nicest CS person?
Anyway, always double check your purchase after you left the store. As my mom always say to me.

I raised hell w/ the peon for a while, he screwed up multiple times... told me I'd have to pay 30 bucks... I said let me talk to the manager.... about 2 hours later I walk out w/ the platinum memory that I wanted... Although the ram I had before ran w/o errors at 2-2-2-5... and this only runs at 2-3-2-6... heh. Oh well, I got my new case all put together... sounds like a freakin F-15.... 5 Antec Blue LED fans... and 2 COolmaster 3 HD coolers w/ blue front LEDs.... oh yeah, oh yeah. This thing is huge too... dwarfs my old case... and towers over my monitor...

So I'm thinking the HITACHI CML174SXWB 17" on new egg for $445 shipped... The black one of course... Also got a new Logitech Elite keyboard to match mouse\speakers\webcam\digicam\case\everything. I also need a black CDRW\DVD ROM... I think Sony CDRW/DVD Combo Drive Model CRX300E/B2 (BLACK) OEM for like 65 bucks... After I put everything in my case, I realized that I didn't take the plastic cover from the front of my new black disk drive... so this morning I went through the ORDEAL of taking the front of the case off to take out the plastic piece... put it back together... I realize my disk drive is about an inch recessed... CRAP. I'm not taking it off again until I go to put in my CD drive... too much of a pain.
