Hell no. In fact, you should probably apologize for even suggesting it.

On top of the need for more technical and scientific pursuits, arts courses remind you that there's more to life than cold, hard numbers — morality, love, philosophical pursuits. Dead Poets Society's line about what we stay alive for (the arts) is a bit cliché by this point, but it's true.

One of the constant problems in politics is the tendency of some conservatives to treat education as nothing more than training. They want a legion of worker bees who are very skilled, but never think for themselves or challenge the status quo. That's not how society moves forward, and we need the arts in part to counter that training-only impulse.
